Elizabeth Jean Hardy Filburn passed away peacefully in her 95th year on July 10th, 2025, in Arizona with her family at her side.
She is survived by four children who loved her dearly, Denise (Chuck), Jean (Mehrdad), Mark (Linda), Greg (Christina). In addition, her legacy includes 10 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild. Also surviving is her sister, Mary (Tootsie) Thompson.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Francis G. Filburn, and daughter, Diane Ormerod (Marvin).
She was a devoted Catholic, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. She was a devoted daughter to her Mother, Hildegarde, who she loved very much. She worked for the Telephone Company where she met the love of her life, Francis (Blackie). They shared 60 blessed years together. She loved to bake and in her early years was famous for her Wheat fudge, rice crispy treats and popsicles. She volunteered at Providence and Little Sisters of the Poor Nursing Homes.
She was a member of various groups where she met wonderful friends. She loved playing Bunco with whoever was up for lots of fun and some surprises, knowing how she loved to win! She was a very talented embroiderer and made her famous Family Birthday Tablecloth, as well as numerous pillow cases, baby burp cloths and more, enjoyed by many. She loved shopping and taking trips with her daughters and going out to lunch with her friends and family. She loved going to yard sales with her husband, Francis, and the many family get togethers with her children, grandchildren and great- grandchildren. In 2020, after she fell, she moved to AZ to live with her daughter Jean and family. She was blessed with a wonderful life and family, many friends and wonderful caregivers. She was loved by anyone that met her.
Visitation will be Thursday, July 17th from 3:00pm - 7:00pm at Highlands Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Rd. Her Funeral Mass will be Friday at 10:00am at St. Martha Catholic Church, 2825 Klondike Ln, Louisville, KY 40218. Burial Will follow at St. Michael Cemetery.

This beautiful mother and grandmother sounds like a Proverbs 31 woman. I know she will be sorely missed. Sorry I didn't know her. May God give your family comfort in this time of loss. Susan Lynn Dunaway, CCDW Program, DOCJT
