Robert Anthony Miller, of Louisville, passed away on Wednesday, July 9th, 2025.
Bob spent most of his life in Louisville, and was personally and professionally devoted to the city. He was raised in Saints Simon and Jude parish and was a proud graduate of St. Xavier High School, Bellarmine College (B.A.), and the University of Louisville (J.D.).
Bob's career was anchored in public service. He served as the finance director of Jefferson County under Mitch McConnell, and supported McConnell's successful campaign for the U.S. Senate in 1984. At other points in his career, Bob worked as the finance director of the Louisville and Jefferson County Metropolitan Sewer District (MSD), Chief Financial Officer of Catholic Charities of Louisville, an independent management consultant, a contributor and editor for Triumph magazine, and a professor at Bellarmine College. Additionally, Bob frequently and eagerly provided legal services pro bono to individuals and organizations throughout his career.
He was a devoted Catholic and avid reader, with a particular passion for Church and European history, theology, philosophy, and U.S. politics and history. He lit up at any chance for conversation and spirited debate, and was generous and thoughtful in his opinions. His family and friends knew him as a man of integrity-kind, gentle, and brilliant. He loved God and his family above all else.
Bob was predeceased by his parents, Edward Hughes and Margaret Keane Miller; and two brothers, Thomas and Edward, Jr. He is survived by his wife, Elaine; son, Andrew (Emily); three grandchildren, Henry, Michael, and a new baby due this winter; brother, Lawrence (Maria); four nieces and nephews; and three brothers-in-law.
His funeral Mass will be celebrated at noon on Tuesday, July 15th, at the Shrine of St. Martin of Tours, 639 South Shelby Street. Visitation will be held at the church starting at 11 AM. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to St. Martin's.
