Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions - Southern Indiana ChapelLeo Edward Halbleib, Jr., 93, of Floyds Knobs, Indiana, passed away on Sunday, August 24, 2025. Born on July 31, 1932, in Louisville, Kentucky, to the late Leo, Sr. and Christine (Groft) Halbleib, Leo lived a life marked by dedication, service, and love for his family and community.
A proud veteran of the United States Navy, Leo exemplified the values of courage and commitment throughout his life. He graduated from Flaget High School before pursuing further education at the University of Louisville. His professional journey took him to Dupont Chemical, where he would ultimately retire from.
Leo was a devoted member of St. Mary of the Knobs Catholic Church, where he found fellowship and support within the community. His faith and values were central to his life, guiding him in his relationships and interactions with others.
In addition to his parents, Leo was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mary Jean (Daily) Halbleib, as well as his brother, Herb Halbleib, and sister, Mary Halbleib. He leaves behind a legacy of love and memories shared with his children, Timothy Halbleib (Mary), Mary Lou Taylor (Frank), Bridget Keating (John), and Sharon Halbleib. He also cherished his role as Papa Leo to his grandchildren, Kellie, Laura, Claire, Angelina, Marie (Ryan), Clare (Brad), Catherine, and Frank, and great-granddaughters, Jolene and Liliana.
His siblings, John Halbleib (Betty) and Michael Halbleib (Kitt), along with many nieces and nephews, also carry forward his memory. Furthermore, the love he had for his granddogs, Charlie and Molly, was a testament to his gentle and caring spirit.
Visitation will take place from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany) with a rosary being prayed at 7:00 p.m. Additional visitation will continue at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, September 4, 2025, at St. Mary of the Knobs Catholic Church (5719 St. Mary's Road, Floyds Knobs), where Leo's funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Following the mass, he will be laid to rest in the church cemetery with military honors.
