MITCHELL – Rita Jo Mires, 83, passed away Thursday, February 6, 2025, at Indiana University Health Bloomington Hospital.
Born January 11, 1942, in Bedford, she was the daughter of Elder Harry R. and Christina (Brummitt) Holt. She married Frank Chester Mires on November 23, 1972 and he preceded her in death July 30, 2009.
Rita was a Mitchell High School graduate. She was owner and hairstylist at New Reflections Hair Salon for 38 years; starting in 1972 and retiring in 2010. Rita was a member of the American Legion Post No. 250 Auxiliary and the VFW Post No. 9107 Auxiliary. She was very social and enjoyed being around people. Rita was a loving grandmother and helped many people in the community.
Surviving are her children, Ramona (Dale) Swango of Bedford and Tamela Baldwin of Bedford; grandchildren, Brandy Atkins, Ryan Hensley, Ashley Brown, and Austin Tillett; great-grandchildren, Dylan Atkins, Jyle Hensley, Chloe Atkins, Emma Rogers, Veya Hackney, Jason Clark, Jacob Clark, Aubree Kirchoff, Addison Kirchoff, and Autumn Kirchoff; sister, Vickie Brown of Mitchell; and companion, Kenny Kelley of Mitchell.
Her parents; husband; son, Robert Sample; grandson, Robert Atkins; and brother, Jackie Lee Tatro, preceded her in death.
Graveside service will be at 1:00 p.m. Monday, February 10, at Talbott Cemetery.
