Rita Elaine Ostermann

Rita Elaine (Speichinger) Ostermann, 76, of Brunswick, MO, passed away on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, at University Hospital in Columbia, MO. A funeral mass will be held at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Brunswick on Thursday, November 20, 2025 at 10:00 A.M. Father Jeremy Secrist will officiate the service. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 19, 2025 at Breshears Memorial Chapel in Brunswick from 5:00-7:00 P.M. A rosary will immediately follow the visitation. Burial will be at St. Boniface Cemetery in Brunswick.
Rita was born on April 27, 1949 in Keytesville, MO, the daughter of Robert Leo and Lila Irene (Littrell) Speichinger. She attended St. Boniface Catholic School and Brunswick High School. On June 3, 1967, she was united in marriage to the love of her life, James Ostermann, at St. Boniface Catholic Church. Together they were blessed with five children, Mary, James Jr., Robert, Janet, and Michael.
Rita was a homemaker and would often help her husband, James, with their row crop and livestock farm. She loved spending time with her family and enjoyed gardening, baking, cake decorating, playing cards and picking up pecans. She was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church and a member of St. Mary's Altar Society.
Rita is survived by her beloved husband of the home, James Sr.; five children, Mary Irene (Mark) Barnett, James Henry (Carol) Ostermann Jr., and Robert Eugene Ostermann, all of Brunswick, Janet Marie (Sheldon) Shaw of Keytesville, and Michael Edward (Lindsay) Ostermann of Salisbury; seven grandchildren, Scott (Olivia) Ostermann of Brunswick, Ben (Tiffany) Kuntz of Brunswick, John (Nicole) Kuntz of Arnold, Liz (Anfernee) Wilson of Brunswick, Zach Wilson of Keytesville, Jessica (Peyton) Stowers of Keytesville, Lawson Ostermann of Salisbury, and Mara Ostermann of Salisbury; seven step grandchildren, Michael (Lori) Arp of Grain Valley, Julia (Mitchell) Henke of Brunswick, Tyler (Debbie) Barnett of Brunswick, Danielle Miller of Brunswick, Dylan (Maddison) Boeck of Fulton, Russell (Lexi) Shaw of Keytesville, and Destiny (Zack) Miller of Hannibal; thirty great-grandchildren; one sister, Rose Welch of Hermitage; one sister-in-law, Sr. Angela Ostermann OSB of Atchison, KS; and four step-siblings, Mary Calvert of Platte City, Arlene White of Liberty, Janet Regan of Platte City and Jim Brett of Sun City West, AZ.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Irene; her step-mother, Isabelle Speichinger; and one brother, Robert Edward Speichinger.
Pallbearers will be Scott Ostermann, Benjamin Kuntz, Johnathon Kuntz, Russell Shaw, Lawson Ostermann, and Dylan Boeck. Honorary pallbearers will be Zach Wilson, Peyton Stowers, Anfernee Brown, Bentlee Kuntz, Donald Jones, and Spencer Jones.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations to St. Boniface Cemetery or Family Choice. Donations may be left at or mailed to Breshears Memorial Chapel, 207 W. Broadway, Brunswick, MO 65236.
