Funeral services for Rita Glynn Whitfield Stevens, 86, will be held on Monday, November 13, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, 2500 Southside Dr., Shreveport, Louisiana. Burial will follow at Forest Park West Cemetery, 4000 Meriwether Rd. in Shreveport. A visitation will be held Monday, November 13, 2023 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home. Officiating the service will be Dr. Kenny Joyner.
Rita was born on March 11, 1937 in Shreveport, Louisiana to William and Lillie Whitfield and passed away on Wednesday, November 8, 2023 in Shreveport.
Rita attended Fair Park High School and was married to Rodney L. Stevens, Sr. for 55 years until his death in 2009. She was a member of Willow Point Baptist Church and the Red Hat Society. She also played weekly card games with her friends. Rita loved to spend time with her family whether it was sitting around a fire, working puzzles, or playing Phase 10.
Rita is preceded in death by her husband, Rodney L. Stevens, Sr.; son, Rodney L. Stevens, Jr.; daughter-in-law, Sharron Stevens; and four brothers and sisters. Left to cherish her memory are her sons, Chris Stevens and wife, Sandy, Mike Stevens; daughter, Rhonda Grubbs and husband, Jeff; 14 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; brother, Donald Whitfield; and many nieces and nephews.
Honoring Rita as pallbearers will be Robert Stevens, Randall Stevens, Brian Stevens, Brian Johnson, Allen Smith, and Josh Grubbs. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Cade Johnson and Carter Stevens.
The family suggests memorials may be made in Rita’s name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
