Rita Such

1930 - 2025

On Dec. 20, 2025, following a period of declining health, Rita Meyer Such, 95, passed away at home surrounded by her family. She was born in Quincy, Ill. and raised in Hammond, Ind. to the late Lawrence Meyer and Helen Engels Meyer. She graduated from Bishop Noll High School, in 1948.

She married Joseph Carl Such in Little Rock, Ark. on September 16, 1950. They moved to North Carolina in 1958. She worked for the Catholic Diocese of Raleigh, NC for over 45 years, mostly in Catholic Charities.

Rita is survived by children, Christine Mulder (Robert) of Raleigh; Lawrence Such (Loan) of Clayton; Rita Vanbebber of Speedwell, Tenn.; Thomas Such (Bernadette) of Asheboro; and Joyce Blakley (Mark) of Raleigh; 13 grandchildren, and 14 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, Joseph Carl Such, her parents; and brother, Robert Lawrence Meyer; son Wayne, daughters Helen and Catherine (all three died in infancy); son-in-law, James Vanbebber, and great grandson, Tyson Such.

Joe and Rita were members of Sacred Heart Cathedral in Raleigh for several decades.

Rita leaves behind many friends and a family that will miss her kind heart and generous spirit.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of your choice, or to: Transitions Life Care Hospice, who provided invaluable help and support to both Rita and her family.

Final arrangements are being made by L. Harold Poole Funeral Service and Crematory, Knightdale, NC. A more complete obituary is available on Poole's website. A funeral Mass will be held at St. Ann Catholic Church in Clayton at a later date.
