Rita Wheat Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by McLin Funeral Home and Cremation Service on Jan. 31, 2026.
Rita Mae Wheat, age 79, passed away peacefully on January 30, 2026, surrounded by the love she spent a lifetime giving. She was born on May 9, 1946, in Independence, Louisiana, and lived a life rooted in faith, family, and unwavering love.

Rita was a faithful woman who loved the Lord deeply. Her faith guided every part of her life and was evident in the way she loved, served, and prayed for her family. She found strength in God's promises and comfort in knowing that this life was not the end, but a doorway to her eternal home. To know Rita was to feel her quiet strength, her steady prayers, and her unconditional love.

She is survived by her daughter, Lisa Edwards (Louis); her sons, Richie Wheat, Daryl Wheat (Susie), and Heath Wheat (Tammy); her beloved grandchildren, Richie Wheat, Alyssa Wheat, Lauren Wheat, Kali Walker (Devin), and Dalton Wheat; and her precious great-grandchildren, Reid Wheat and Hallie Wade.

She is also survived by her siblings, A.G. and Sheila Thompson, Linda Seals, Darlene and Russell Zachary, Kenny and Julie Thompson, and Timothy Thompson and numerous nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her loving parents, Angus Thompson and Lula Mae McDonald Thompson; and her brother, Larry Thompson, whom she now rejoins in Heaven.

Rita leaves behind a legacy of faith, love, and family that will continue to live on through generations. While her absence is deeply felt, her family finds peace in knowing she is resting in the arms of her Savior, healed and whole, watching over those she loved so dearly.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Mrs. Rita's wake at Christ's Community Church in Denham Springs on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM. Visitation will resume on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, from 10:00 AM until the funeral service begins at 12:00 PM. Burial will follow in Hiram Stafford Cemetery in Walker.
