Ritchie McIllece Obituary

Ritchie Vaughn McIllece

1944-2024

Holladay, UT-Holladay, UT – Our beloved father, brother, grandfather, uncle and friend, Ritchie Vaughn McIllece, passed away suddenly on March 30, at the age of 79. We will miss him in our lives.

Ritchie was born October 11, 1944, in SLC to John Elton and Sarah Naoma (Davis) McIllece. He grew up in Salt Lake City, attended Olympus High, BYU Hawaii, proudly served an LDS mission in British Columbia, and travelled throughout the western states and Canada in a successful career.

Ritchie had something special that the rest of us gravitated towards. He was an exceptional listener and a loyal, lifelong friend. The favorite person at a party, not for his good looks and impeccable style, but for his ability to make others feel special…..unless you were golfing! Ritchie, we will miss your fiercely competitive spirit, it made playing any game or sport with you so much fun. Thank you.

Ritchie exemplified hard work and sacrifice. An intelligent man and gifted athlete, he moved with grace and purpose in life, and inspired others to excel in theirs. Ritchie was a remarkably generous man, quietly going out of his way to help those in need. He was a good example in charity and selflessness.

He will be deeply missed by his children, Rachelle (Philippe) and Christopher (Rachel), his five grandchildren: Alexandre, Estelle, Audrey, Thomas, and Alexandra, his loving brother Allen (Paula) and sister Susan (Don) Hakala, and sister-in-law Joanie, and numerous beloved nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his brother Stanley Roy McIllece, his parents, and his niece Jamie Dawn Hakala.

In honor of Ritchie's memory, services will be held on Tuesday, April 9th, at Larkin Sunset Gardens 1950 East 10600 South, Sandy, viewing at 10:00 am followed by memorial services at 11:00 am.

Rich was our next-door neighbor for 27 years. He was a good man with a terrific sense of humor and perspective of right and wrong. He always had time to say hello and make sure we were doing OK. He also kept his home and yard in immaculate condition, adding much to our street. We will miss seeing him and waving as he headed out for a round of golf. We hope his family can find some comfort knowing his neighbors truly appreciated and respected him.

I am deeply sorry to hear about the loss of my mentor and friend. He meant a great deal to me, serving as both a guide and a confidant. His passion for golf and the countless cherished memories we shared will undoubtedly be remembered fondly. Losing someone who felt like family is never easy, and my thoughts are with his family during this difficult time.
