River Rooks Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by McKoon Funeral Home & Crematory on Jan. 24, 2026.
River Jackson Rooks, age 30, of Greenville, Georgia, passed away on January 16, 2026. Born on July 7, 1995, River lived life on his own terms and left a lasting impression on everyone who truly knew him. River was funny, stubborn, and fiercely opinionated-a proud, gun-loving, hard-core Republican who loved a good debate on just about any topic. He stood firmly in his beliefs and wasn't afraid to speak his mind, but beneath that strong exterior was a loyal friend and a deeply caring soul. He loved the outdoors, playing in the mud, and working with his hands. River had an incredible ability to fix just about anything, often solving problems quietly by repairing what was broken rather than talking about it. When he did sit down with you, he was fully present-listening intently, offering advice, and helping in ways that truly mattered. He loved all animals, but none more than his dog, Ben, who was his constant companion and best buddy.

Though River wasn't the most social person, those lucky enough to be part of his circle knew his loyalty ran deep. He loved his friends, valued genuine connection, and showed his care through actions more than words.

The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of McKoon Funeral Home, 38 Jackson Street, in Newnan. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until service time. A private interment will take place at Southview Cemetery in Moreland.

River is preceded in death by his grandfathers, George Lauzon and James Rooks, and grandmother Pat Rooks. He is survived by his parents, Wayne and Donna Rooks, His Brother, Hunter Rooks (Katie), and his nephew, Brayden, Rohen, and Beckham Rooks and niece, Maylen Rooks. Grandmother Veronica Lauzon, uncles James Lauzon (Debbie) and Allen Rooks (Bettyann), Aunt Catherine Groover (Chris), along with family, friends, and all who were touched by his sharp wit, capable hands, and unwavering authenticity.

River's life was far too short, but the memories he created and the love he showed in his own steady way will never be forgotten.
