The family of Robert "Rob" Donald Dempsey, Jr., of Simpsonville, SC, is heartbroken to announce his unexpected passing on Wednesday, October 23, 2024, at the age of 57.
Known to some as the guy who lost 140 lbs to overcome obesity, the 16-year-old kid who was kicked out of his home to live in the streets, or as a foster and adoptive parent, Rob was a champion and a true friend to the underdog and the outcast.
His professional career was spent as Station Manager and co-host of the beloved radio show "Rob & Lizz in the Morning" on HIS Radio WLFJ FM. His passion for sharing both hope through his own personal story and the love of God touched the hearts of countless listeners. A man of deep faith, Rob's commitment to his work in the radio ministry left a lasting impact on those around him. His warm presence and genuine care for others will be dearly missed by his colleagues, friends, and the community.
Rob enjoyed cycling, running, hiking, and leading worship at his church.
Of all his earthly pleasures, Rob's greatest joy was his family. He was the beloved husband of Amy Dempsey; the devoted father of Elijah, Spencer (Grace), Amanda (Bradford), and Wesley (Brittany); and the most amazing Pop Pop to his cherished grands, Jackson and Grace. He is also survived by three siblings.
The funeral service to celebrate Rob's life will be held on Monday, October 28, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Brookwood Church followed by a time of visitation. For those unable to attend the service in person, a livestream will be available at brookwoodchurch.org.
Memorials may be made in Rob's memory to His Radio.
While we will deeply miss him, we know that to be absent in the body is to be present with the Lord, and we rejoice in knowing that he is currently experiencing the undiluted joy of heaven.

The first time I "met" Rob was when he sang Gratitude at Brookwood church. My family and I were members at Brookwood for some years. My husband was on the worship team and would often play with Rob at church and then he would come home telling stories about Rob.
I have spent the last days since Rob´s passing praying for his family and on Saturday night, I was working and put my headphones on, hit play on my worship playlist and the first song that started playing was Gratitude. At this same moment I smiled to myself, thought about Rob and praised the Lord because I know Rob is with Him now.
May his family remember all their memories together with a smile on their faces and may God bless them always.

Slocumb family out of North Carolina. In this turbulent time in America. One thing is certain, there are NO racial or political divides with God. As an African-American family we throughly enjoyed Rob and the HIS radio family and we connected through the most important aspect of life which is JESUS!!

What I remember about Rob is that he was so humble and you could feel his sincerity thru the radio. That´s hard to find. He made you feel like I´m just like you. Jesus saved me and he can save you! I will miss him so much but glad I got to hear him. Will be praying for the team and family.

I had the honor to meet Rob while he was dining with the His Radio crew at Fatz cafe in Pooler GA. I wrote a thank you note on a napkin, had it sent over to his table and graciously invited me to meet His Crew! Rob was my favorite Radio Host as he inspired, lifted up and gave hope when all seemed lost. God has gained an incredible Christian Soldier.

I cried so hard when I heard of Rob's passing. But I was reminded of how I prayed for his miracle. God answered our prayers. Now he's free of pain and in the very presence of Jesus! I couldn't help but give the Lord the glory for how awesome Rob must be feeling as he looks upon our Savior's precious face! He would never want to come back. Now he's waiting for his loved ones to join him in that beautiful place. What a day that will be! Praying for Rob's loving family.

I don´t know what to say, my heart is so broken but I know God doesn´t make mistakes. It was time for him to go home to his father. He saved my life. In 2016 my husband of twenty years left me, even though it was a pleasant marriage, I was so devastated because I was used to the way I was treated it became my normal. But when he left I didn´t know what to do until one day I turned on my radio and the his channel was on. I always listened to R&B, I never changed the station, but that day this channel was on and I heard his voice talking about God and I have been listening ever since and my walk with God is so beautiful. The life I´m living now I owe to him. Well done my faithful servant. To his family, I´m so sorry for your loss, you will see him again. I´m praying for your comfort.

I was about 10 years old when I heard him on the joy FM where I also lived in Florida. I thought he had a cute voice! Haha! I was so surprised and delighted when I moved to SC in 2008 and found him on my radio station once again!

I also want to mention that he was my first role model that showed me that we don´t have to eat junk food just because that´s what the culture does. I believe he was my first step in my health journey.

He was such an amazing guy and his love for Jesus and his family just shone through everything he said and did. I can´t wait to meet him again on the other side! My sympathy and love to his family and friends for their loss.

We are all going to miss Rob on WLFJ. He is almost like a best friend that some of us have never met. I know that he is in heaven with our Lord and that's really all that matters. We will never forget Rob Dempsey!

HIS Radio listener

October 25, 2024

I never met Rob in person, but after listening to him for years on HIS Radio, people like me felt like we knew him. Words can't express my sympathy to the Dempsey family, the HIS Radio family, or the thousands of people that Rob touched.
Rob let so many people into his life by testifying on his life. He brought so many souls to God. Rob had the best attitude in life and a glorious love of God & family.
I'm so happy he had that last little bit of time spending a few weeks after Hurrican Helene with his grandchildren. I know he adored his family. I'm glad he made so many memories with his wife and children. I thank you all for sharing Rob with the rest of the world. May God's peace be with you always.

I've been listening to His Radio for years and Rob always had a special way of speaking to the public with his voice. It was a soothing blend of warmth and assurance, effortlessly creating an atmosphere of calm. His steady tone make listeners, like myself feel at ease, as if we are sharing a moment with a trusted friend. His story was inspiring and he will truly be missed everyday as our household listens to His Radio every morning and throughout the day. He was a man of faith and he truly inspired so many individuals. We are praying for his family as well as the His Radio family. We lost an incredible one, but heaven gained an angel.

Rob and Amy were our neighbors in New Port Richey. The presence of God in his speech, actions, and life's ministry will always be how we remember Rob. Together, they created a home of hospitality and friendship. Our heart aches for Amy and the Dempsey family, and we will pray for the Lord's continued comfort to all.
