Robert Allmen Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Lynch & Sons Funeral Directors - Clawson on Dec. 29, 2025.
Robert D. Allmen, 83, of Royal Oak, Michigan passed away peacefully on December 23, 2025. Bob was a cherished husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend and his presence will be deeply missed by his loved ones.
Bob was born on December 8, 1942 in Detroit, Michigan to Ernest and Ida Allmen. Bob remembered his childhood fondly, especially his brothers and cousins. After graduating from Hazel Park High School in 1961, Bob served in the U.S. Army as an electronics instructor number of years before becoming an early adopter of the TRS-80 and Heathkit projects.
For a majority of his life, Bob was employed by Chrysler Corp as an Electronics Technician. Bob loved his work and took pride in his accomplishments. At work, he was affectionately referred to as "part-time Bob." Bob earned this title because he was famous for taking half-days and refusing overtime and, instead, choosing to spend his time with his wife, kids, and dogs.
At home, Bob spent his time with his family working on many projects. He believed that proper planning prevented poor performance and it was shown in his hard-work ethic, thoroughness, and the quality of his work. Some of these projects included building a second-story edition on their family home in Royal Oak, and building a garage to house his other hobbies.
In his spare time, Bob was an avid collector of erector sets. His collection is impressive and the projects he made were intricate and well-designed. Some of these projects included his firetruck, double Ferris wheel, and merry-go-rounds. In addition to his love of erector sets, Bob was a woodworker in his free time and built several items for his children, including a kitchen-set for his daughter, and multiple trains and trucks for his grandchildren that were loved and admired for their craftsmanship.
Bob was a car lover through and through. Throughout his life, he owned and restored several cars such as his 1932 Chevy, 1957 Studebaker President, and 1956 Studebaker Hawk. In his free time, Bob would look up specs of new cars and old cars, alike, to expand his knowledge of cars.
With his family, Bob enjoyed camping up north. Bob, Nancy, and the kids would travel up Van Dyke to see what the thumb had to offer. After their older kids graduated high school, Bob and Nancy eventually bought a fixer-upper in Port Austin, Michigan. Bob dedicated his time energy once again to remodeling and fixing up the property with many projects. Bob and Nancy took the small hike up to Port Austin many times each year. They made new friends with their up north neighbors, enjoyed the scenery, and enjoyed the lake life.
Bob found the small pleasures in life. He was a man who enjoyed a good beer and his dogs. Throughout the years, Bob and Nancy owned many dogs-mostly Australian Shepards. Bob's Aussies were always divas and they loved sharing some beer and scraps with their dad. He was loved by his animals so much.
Bob was very proud of his Swiss heritage and was a part of the Detroit Swiss Society in Michigan. Bob made it a priority to attend Swiss picnics as many years as he could and he took great pride in his genealogy. Due to his love for all things Swiss, Bob and Nancy made several trips to Switzerland to visit and they were some of Bob and Nancy's most cherished vacations.
One of Bob's best qualities was that he was a man of integrity. He believed in and demonstrated consistency, honesty, and character. His family valued those traits in him and admired how he upheld those tenets every day of his life.
At his core, Bob was a man who loved his family. There were many times where he enjoyed taking a back seat to savor the moment with his favorite people. He never shied away from sharing his love and his hugs with his family, especially his grandkids.
We are forever grateful to have had Bob Allmen in our lives. Bob was an incredible man who was deeply loved and will be greatly missed by his loved ones.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Ida Allmen, his brothers Jack E. Allmen and Charles Allmen, and his son James T. Fleming. Bob was a loving husband to his wife Nancy Allmen and a loving father to all of his children: Steven (Laura) Allmen, Heather Fleming, Richard Allmen, Jeffery Allmen, and his daughter-in-law Kelly Fleming. He was a loving grandfather to his grandchildren: Anthony, Brendon, Katie, Olivia, Josie, Jason, and Max and his great-grandsons: Corbin, Patrick, Myles, and Josiah. Bob will be greatly missed by his brother Kenneth (Cheryl) Allmen, sister-in-law Patricia Allmen, by his sister-in-laws: Diane (Jim) Edwards and Chris (John) Bicknell, and by all of his nieces and nephews.
