Robert J. "Bob" Babicz, 80, of Yorkville, passed away on Tuesday, September 6, 2022 at the Abraham House Utica, with his loving family by his side.
He was born on April 15, 1942 in Utica, the son of Joseph and Agnes (Rumbutis) Babicz. Bob was a graduate of Utica Free Academy and furthered his education at Utica College. On August 15, 1970, he was united in marriage to Kathryn "Connie" Burns in a ceremony on Kayuta Lake, an event that was front page news at the time. They shared a blessed union of 45 years until her passing on June 14, 2015. They opened and operated Connie's Ceramics for many years until he was ultimately employed with Meyda Tiffany Lighting in Yorkville, where he retired in 2008. He was a member of The Church of the Sacred Heart & St. Mary Our Lady of Czestochowa and the Utica Ziyara Shriners.
Bob was a very loving husband, father and grandfather. Friends closest to him talked about how it felt like he was their dad too. He is survived by his daughter, Rene and Jeff Feuerman; sons, Brett Babicz, Joe and Lisa Babicz, Bobby and Lena Babicz and Todd Babicz and Robyn; granddaughters, Madison Babicz, Morgan Babicz, Olivia Feuerman and Sara Babicz; grandsons, Jarod Babicz, Jake Babicz, Nathan Feuerman and several cousins. He was predeceased by a son, Sean Babicz.
Bob was a lifelong softball player, and still actively bowling in the Thursday Varick League and golfing in the Utica Clubbers League. He spent many family vacations fishing on Black Lake and every summer on Oneida Lake, entertaining family and friends at their camp in Sylvan Beach. Bob was also a huge fan of Western movies, especially anything with John Wayne. He faithfully followed the NY Yankees and loved to listen to Neil Diamond, usually loud enough to be at a concert.
Robert's family wishes to extend their gratitude to his cousin, Terri Hobson for all her love, but especially her help during the past few years as well as his closest cousin Tom Thomas who was more like a brother. The family also thanks the staff at the Abraham House Utica for their care and compassion.
Relatives and friends are invited to calling hours on Monday, September 12th from 4-7 pm at Dimbleby Funeral Home, 40 Main St., Whitesboro. Funeral services will be on Tuesday, September 13th at 11 am from The Church of the Sacred Heart & St. Mary Our Lady of Czestochowa where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment will follow in Forest Hill Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice & Palliative Care. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
