Robert Barrett Obituary

Robert "Bob" Barrett

Robert "Bob" Barrett of Albuquerque, New Mexico, passed away on January 8, 2026.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Barbara. He is survived by his beloved wife, Judi; his daughter, Whitney, and her husband, Kevin; his sister, Carol; and many cherished nieces and nephews.

Bob was born in Missoula, Montana, in 1942 to Robert and Agnes Barrett. He grew up in Tacoma, Washington, and later in Albuquerque, where he attended Valley High School and UNM. After college, he proudly served as a member of the New Mexico Air National Guard.

Bob and the love of his life, Judi, were married in 1972. In 1981, they welcomed their daughter, Whitney, one of the greatest joys of Bob's life.

Bob lived life fully and was many things to many people: a custom home builder (Whitney Homes), golfer, devoted father and soccer dad, loyal Lobo fan, and often the life of the party. He would also want to be remembered as a power boat racer. For 15 years, Bob raced competitively across the country with his dedicated crew. A career that included a world championship in 1980.

Bob was fun-loving, quick-witted, and intelligent, with a talent for storytelling and a deep appreciation for a willing audience. Even through difficult times, he continued to charm those around him with his humor, warmth, and laughter.

Above all, Bob loved deeply and found great joy in life. He loved his wife, family, and friendsand especially his yellow Labs, who somehow always managed to train him rather than the other way around.

I am so sorry for your loss Judi. Bob was one of my favorite customers and favorite people. I loved his stories about racing his boat and enjoyed running into you and him at Lobo games and at Costco. I will miss him.
