Robert "Bob" Bartley was born on May 7, 1937, to George Everett Bartley and Pearl Irene Eggert in Denver, Colorado. He passed away on December 13, 2024, in Norman, Oklahoma, at the age of 87.
Bob was the last of six children – his brothers, Bill, Dave, and the twins, Ron and Don, and his sister, Marge. In 1955, Bob graduated from Eureka High School in Eureka, Missouri. He went on to join the United States Navy. Bob completed boot camp at Great Lakes, and Submarine School in New London, Connecticut. After his training was complete, Bob was shipped to Pearl harbor and boarded the beautiful USS Gudgeon SS 567. While on board, Bob worked as a diesel engine repair man until he was honorably discharged in August of 1959.
His career went a new direction when he started work for the Chrysler Plant in St. Louis, Missouri. He stayed there for one year, and then went to work for the Western Union for three years. After that, he worked for Magnolia Pipe line, and later, Mobil Pipeline for the next 20 years. He found his true passion in the electrical field, where he started his own company called Bob Bartley Electric Inc. in 1978. He stayed with that for 30 years until he turned the company over to his daughter, Donna, and retired. During retirement, he took up golfing and bought a small, cozy motor home, in which he said "Life is good".
Bob called Lindsay his home in 1967, until shortly before his passing. Bob was a devoted member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Lindsay, Oklahoma, and the American Legion and Elks Lodge, in Lindsay. Bob enjoyed RV camping, Motorcycle riding, fishing, and hunting. He also liked playing round table at coffee shops, and golfing.
Bob is preceded in death by his parents, George Everett Bartley and Pearl Irene Eggert, his brothers, Bill Bartley, Dave Bartley, and Ron Bartley, and his sister, Marge Jenkins.
Left to cherish Bob's memory are his daughters, Gaye and husband Bert of Spokane Washington, Donna Bartley of Norman, Oklahoma, and Kara and husband John Standridge of Bucyrus, Kansas, his brother, Don Bartley from Linn, Missouri, his grandchildren, Jay LeClercq, Bethany Bray, Jennings Clark, Cooper Clark, Hailey Warner, Hannah Warner, and Hope Warner, and his great grandchildren, Adler Clark, Brooks Clark, and his best buddy, Judith Wells.
A funeral service to honor the life of Bob will be held Wednesday, December 18, 2024, at 2:00 P.M. at the Calvary Baptist Church in Lindsay, Oklahoma. He will be laid to rest the following day at 2:00 P.M. at the Neosho Memorial Park & Cemetery in Neosho, Missouri.
Services are under the direction of Scott and Angel Wilbourn of Wilbourn Family Funeral Home in Alex, Oklahoma. Condolences may be made to the family online at www.wilbournfamilyfuneralhome.com
