Michael Mantooth Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Wilbourn Family Funeral Home - Lindsay on Oct. 27, 2025.
Rev. Michael David Mantooth was born January 4, 1948, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, to John Wesley and Valenta Ruth Mantooth of Lindsay. He passed away peacefully at his home on October 25, 2025, at the age of 77, following an extended illness.

Mike was the third child in this big farm family of two boys and four girls. He was raised on the family farm and cherished the animals, adventure and open spaces it represented.

Mike loved the Lindsay community. He graduated from Lindsay High School in 1966. Some of his closest friends in life were fellow schoolmates. Mike enjoyed playing the trombone in the Lindsay High School Band and especially in the Noise Boys Band. He was a gifted bass singer, enjoying Glee Club and singing in the choir at Lindsay First Baptist Church.

Mike graduated from Oklahoma State University with a BS in Animal Science. While in college he met and married the love of his life, Patricia Ann Sigl from Kingfisher, Oklahoma. Their twin boys, James and John, were born during these student years. While at Stillwater, Mike toured the state with the OSU Student Entertainers, making music and making friends.

After college, Mike joined the US Army and served in South Korea. He later graduated from Brite Divinity School in Fort Worth, Texas, with a Master of Divinity degree. Mike became a US Army chaplain, serving 20 years in the United States and Germany. After the army, Mike became a chaplain for the John B. Connally Unit Maximum Security Federal Prison in Texas.

Mike and Pat returned to Lindsay in 2005, to care for the family farm and to assist his mother in her later years. Mike loved being a farmer-rancher again. He also loved being back at Lindsay First Baptist Church. Mike was a regular volunteer at Lindsay schools, the police and fire stations, and other organizations.

Mike is survived by his wife of 57 years, Pat, of the home; his sons, James Robert Mantooth and wife Beth Wilson of Catonsville, Maryland, and John Wesley Mantooth and wife Margaret Broom Mantooth of Stillwater, Oklahoma; and his grandchildren, Michael, Justin, James, and Rebecca. Beloved grandson, Corwin, died in 2018. Mike is also survived by his brother, James Edward Mantooth of Port Angeles, Washington; and his sisters, Jo Ellen Howard and Marilyn Miller of Fort Worth, Texas.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents, John Wesley and Valenta Ruth Mantooth and his sisters, Linda Ruth Thornton and Betty Lou Garrett.

Services are under the direction of Scott and Angel Wilbourn of Wilbourn Family Funeral Home. Condolences may be made to the family online at www.wilbournfamilyfuneralhome.com
