Robert Bassett

Robert Julian Bassett, born July 22, 1929, age 93 of Knoxville, the only child of Robert W. and Mattie Cooper Bassett, died March 17, 2023. Following graduation from Murray State University (Kentucky). He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War, and upon discharge from the military, completed post-graduate studies at the University of Michigan (Ann Arbor), and began a career in Academic Libraries which took him from Brooklyn NY to the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, from where he retired in 1990. Julian is preceded in death by his parents, his step-father, and his friend Robert C. Johnson. Julian was very fortunate to have had many good friends throughout his life, especially David L. Owens who was like the son that he never had. Julian is survived by David and Rebecca Owens and their family: Pamela and Alex Kelley, and Tyler Owens. No funeral services are planned.
