Robert Clayton Beckum, age 64, passed away peacefully at his residence in Dearing on April 8, 2025. Born on May 2, 1960, Robert was a cherished son of Martha Martin Beckum and Ray Fleming Beckum, both of whom preceded him in death.
Robert’s journey began in a family that spent time in Augusta and the Wrens area. He attended schools in the Richmond County and Jefferson County School Systems, with a significant portion of his education taking place in Wrens. As he matured, he chose to forge a path that suited his practical nature, exiting school just shy of graduation to join his uncle at Dickens Heating and Air. He dedicated 15 years to this craft before transitioning to ARCO, where he worked as an electrician and retired after another 15 years of devoted service.
Known for his great sense of humor, Robert was a true jokester who approached life with a laid-back attitude. He took each day as it came and sought to create happiness not just for himself but for everyone around him. Family was everything to him, and he particularly loved spending time with his grandchildren, sharing laughter and joy in every moment.
In addition to his family ties, Robert had a deep appreciation for country life. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, and was passionate about grilling, often hosting family and friends to share delicious food and warm fellowship. His artistic side flourished through drawing, and he had a special fondness for country music, often found with his guitar, delighting those around him with songs.
Robert is survived by his three children, Brandon C. Beckum (Bobbi), R. Wesley Beckum (Shelby), and Heather B. Brown. He was a proud grandfather to Clayton Beckum, Haydon Beckum, Allyssa Beckum, Braydon Beckum, Cole Pittman, Anna Bryant, Bryson Bryant, Haley Long (Montie), Devin Brown, Nathan Brown, and Savannah Powell. He also leaves behind two great-grandchildren, Evelyn Long and Montie Long Jr.; two brothers, Joe Beckum (Rhonda) and Mark Beckum (Jane); along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and many cherished friends.
Robert was recently preceded in death by Penny Chaney, his loving companion of 30+ years.
A visitation will be held at James Funeral Home on Saturday, April 19, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM, followed by a Celebration of Life service at 3:00 PM.
Robert's memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
