Charlie Edward Davis, 95, a quiet and humble man, peacefully entered into his eternal home in Heaven Wednesday evening, February 11, 2026, at his beloved home in Avera. Born on June 17, 1930, Charlie spent his life cultivating not only the land but also deep connections with his family and community.

As a lifelong resident of Avera, Charlie began his education there, attending the school in Avera until the 6th grade when he had to leave to help on the family farm. This early experience in the tough times of the Great Depression shaped him into an industrious individual who dedicated himself to hard work. He became a farmer known for raising hogs and cows and cultivating a vegetable garden that nourished both his family and friends.

In 1956, Charlie married the love of his life, Elsie. Throughout their life together, Charlie continued to farm while also taking on a full-time position at JP Stevens for several years, before joining Thermo King as an assembler—a role that he embraced for over 18 years before retiring. In retirement, Charlie was a fixture in his community known for his unmatched handyman skills, readily available to assist others with repairs and projects around their homes.

His commitment to serving others extended beyond his trade. Charlie and Elsie devoted much of their time to caring for elderly in their community, running errands, visiting, and making necessary repairs, showcasing his loving nature and servant's heart. His faith was a cornerstone of his life; having accepted Jesus as his Savior as a young boy, Charlie actively worshipped at Waldens United Methodist Church and later at Wrens Christian Fellowship Church (formerly Wrens United Methodist Church), where he continued to serve the Lord by selflessly serving those around him.

Family was of utmost importance to Charlie. He cherished his children, Bryan Davis and Buford Manning (Bonnie), as well as his grandchildren, Jiles Manning (Serena), Justin Manning (Justine), Jeff Davis, and Montana Davis. He took immense joy in spoiling his two great-grandchildren, Sumner Manning and Lainey Manning. His sister, JoDean Davis, along with numerous nieces, nephews, other extended family, and his cherished church family and friends, will forever remember Charlie’s kind spirit and the love he poured into their lives.

Charlie is preceded in death by his loving spouse, Elsie Martin Manning Davis, his parents, Emma Manning Davis and Joe Thomas Davis, and his siblings, Reba D. Peoples, Broadus Davis, Mary D. McGahee, Dorothy Davis, Beulah D. Lamb, Bennet Davis, and Peggy D. Williams.

The family will greet friends from 12:00 – 2:00PM Saturday, February 14, 2026 at James Funeral Home. The funeral service to celebrate his homegoing will follow at 2:00PM in the James Funeral Home Chapel officiated by Rev. Ron Dixon. Honored to serve as pallbearers include Justin Chalker, Jeff Davis, Jiles Manning, Justin Manning, Eddie Martin and Charles Milburn. After the service, Charlie will be interred next to his loving wife in Jefferson County Memorial Gardens.

The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contribution be made to Wrens Christian Fellowship Church, 200 Russell Street, Wrens GA 30833.

The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to PruittHealth Hospice for their loving, compassionate and professional care.

His contributions, his unwavering love for his family, and his generous spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. Charlie Edward Davis’s legacy is one of hard work, love, and faith—an inspiration to many and a beloved member of the Avera community.
