Dorothy Louise Wilcher Hadden, 85, loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, entered into Heaven on Tuesday, August 26, 2025. Services to celebrate her life will be held at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Avera at 11 AM on Friday, August 29, 2025 with Rev. Mark Bowers officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Dorothy was born in Edgehill, GA to the late John Dillard Wilcher and the late Helen Todd Wilcher.

Dorothy, known to many friends as “Dot”, and to family as “Mama Dot”, was a strong and independent woman. After the loss of her husband, she took over running the farm. She co-owned and worked at Stapleton Gin Company until it closed in 1989. Dorothy worked for many years as PMR clerk at Stapleton Post Office and OIC at Avera Post Office. She ran Hadden Tax Service in Stapleton until her retirement in 2022. She was an active member of Pleasant Grove Baptist church until her health prevented her from attending. Dorothy faithfully served as a volunteer at Manna in Thomson and with GA Baptist Disaster Relief Unit 2F.

Dorothy is survived by her children, Donna Hadden Maffett (John), David Hadden (Leisa), Marshall Hadden (Bonnie), and Andrew Hadden (Amy), all of Avera; grandchildren, Elizabeth Braddock (Jacob), Emily Hadden (Brett), Spencer Hadden (Riley), Chandler Hadden (Ashlyn), and Monika Hess; great-grandchildren, Ashton Hadden, Riley Braddock, Hunter Hadden, Reese Hadden, Addison Hadden, Lukas Hess, and Charlee Hadden; sisters, Eva Ruth McCoy, and Jean Usry (Charles); and many nieces and nephews. Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Donald P. Hadden; fiancé, James Lee Hobbs; grandson, Christopher Hadden; daughter-in-law, Bonnie Hadden; and brother-in-law, Thomas McCoy. Honored to serve as pallbearers include Jacob Braddock, Riley Braddock, Chandler Hadden, Hunter Hadden, Reese Hadden, Spencer Hadden, Brett Lumar and Matthew Usry. Honorary pallbearers are Ashton Hadden and Emily Hadden.

The family will receive friends at James Funeral Home Thursday, August 28, 2025 from 6 – 8 PM. At other times, they will be gathered at the home in Avera.
