Edna Marie Brassell Dixon, 84, peacefully entered into her eternal Heavenly home on Thursday afternoon, February 20, 2025, at her residence in Avera.

She was born on September 27, 1940, to the late Lois Snider Brassell and the late Fred Brassell. Being “spunky”, she enjoyed a vibrant life centered around her family.

Edna’s life was defined by her passion for sewing. She worked with pride in the industry for notable establishments including Stapleton Garment and Carroll Rhodes. In addition to her professional endeavors, Edna would often sew for others in her personal time, showcasing her dedication and expertise.

Education was a journey for Edna. Although she married at a young age, she later returned to her studies and earned her GED, demonstrating her commitment to self-improvement and personal growth.

Family was always her first priority; Edna provided a loving, safe haven for those she cherished. Her culinary talents were unmatched, and cooking served as her love language. The greatest joy in her life came from preparing delicious dishes for her loved ones and watching them relish every bite. Edna’s home was a treasure trove of memories, filled with photos and albums highlighting the lives of her family. She often looked at these photos and albums, keeping memories of her family alive in her heart.

A Christian, Edna accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior, serving Him daily while striving to embody His teachings in her actions and words. Her loving, kind, and generous nature touched everyone around her. She formed deep, loyal friendships, leaving a significant impact on the lives she encountered.

In her retirement, Edna found joy in simple pleasures. She loved shopping and was always impeccably dressed, with her hair pristine and makeup perfect. She often reminisced about the lost days of drive-in movies, enjoyed listening to music—especially Elvis, country, and gospel—and engaged in hobbies such as crossword puzzles and reading romance novels. Edna had a particular fondness for watching westerns and Elvis movies. Her heart yearned for exploration, leading her to travel to the mountains, beach, and lake, places she cherished.

Edna leaves behind sons Teddy Sammons and Joseph D. Dixon Jr. (Pauline) of Warrenton; grandchildren Christy Gonzalez (Victor), Tony Sammons Jr. (Stephanie), Teela Floyd (Austin), Joseph D. Dixon III, and Emanuel Dixon; great-grandchildren Jossalynn Garcia, Sebastian Sammons, Brennan Sammons, and Violet Floyd; as well as nieces, nephews, and a host of other extended family and friends who will miss her dearly.

Edna was also preceded in death by her husband, Joseph David Dixon Sr.; her children, Penny Sammons and Tony Sammons; her grandson, Matthew Dixon; and all of her siblings, including Ruby Williford, Joe Brassell, Vera Deason, and George "Red" Brassell.

The family will greet friends from 12:30 – 2:30 P.M. Thursday, February 27, 2025 at James Funeral Home. Services to celebrate her life will follow the visitation in the James Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Robert Cook officiating. Interment will be in the Gospel Chapel Cemetery in Avera.  Honored to serve as pallbearers include Victor Gonzalez, Larry May, Stephen May, Michael Morris, Wayne Williford and George Zachmann.

Her legacy of love and kindness will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew her. Edna Marie Dixon’s life was a testament to faith, family, and love, and she will be remembered for the warmth and light she brought to the world.
