Robert Bennett Sr., 80 years old of Brook, Indiana passed away Saturday June 28 at his home. Robert was born in Brook on October 5, 1944 the son of LaVern Bennett and Bernice Cox (Swartz). Robert was a lifelong resident of the Brook and Morocco communities.
Robert spent most of his early years in Morocco. He attended the Morocco schools and graduated from Morocco High School. After graduation he enlisted in the United States Army and served during the Vietnam War. After service he married Mary Watson and they had 3 sons. Robert spent his working years in the construction industry and worked for a few different companies.
Robert enjoyed his free time camping at Oak Lake Campground and also loved to walk on the country roads by his home. He also was member of the American Legion Post 146 in Morocco.
Robert is survived by two sons: Robert (Carol) Bennett Jr. and James Bennett, along with two grandchildren, Amanda and Aaron Bennett. He is also survived by his companion of 38 years Debbie Chiles. He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant son Charles, two brothers Ronald Bennett and Gary Bennett. Also, a sister Connie Fontain.
Friends are invited to visit with family Sunday July 6th from 3:00 pm until 5:00 pm at the Steinke Funeral Home of Morocco. A funeral service for Robert will be held at the funeral home at 5:00 pm with Pastor Joshua Cowan officiating. A burial service with Military Honors will be held on Monday July 7th at 11:00 am at the Oakland Cemetery in Morocco.
