Robert "Bob" Erikson Jr. Obituary

Publish in a newspaper

Robert H. Erikson Jr. (Bob), age 76, passed away on Saturday July 19, 2025, in Portland, Oregon.

Born on January 13, 1949, in Santa Barbara, California, Bob lived a full and vibrant life marked by deep devotion to his family, service to his country, and a passion for the simple joys that brought people together.

In 1968, Bob was drafted into the United States Army and served overseas in Vietnam. During his time in service, he sustained injuries that led to his return to the United States in 1970. It was during this period that he developed a keen interest in tanks-a fascination that stayed with him throughout his life. After several years of dedicated service, Bob was honorably discharged in 1974.

In 1975, Bob met the love of his life, Jill. They were married on March 14, 1980, and together they built a life centered around love and family. They raised two (2) children, Daughter Dawn and Son Robert III-and later welcomed four (4) grandchildren into their lives. Bob cherished his role as a father and grandpa, or "Papa," spending countless hours cheering from the sidelines at sporting events.

He had a lifelong love of cars-racing them, working on them, and sharing that passion with others. He could often be found at Friday Night Derbies or enjoying time at the horse and dog tracks. Bowling nights and card games with friends were regular highlights of his week. He was a devoted son, husband, father, and grandfather who cherished every moment spent with loved ones. Whether it was camping trips or backyard barbecues, Bob found joy in teaching his children and grandchildren new things and being present for their milestones. Holidays held a special place in his heart like times when laughter filled the air and memories were made.

Those who knew Bob will remember him for his infectious sense of humor and his gift for making people laugh. He approached life with enthusiasm and warmth that left an impression on everyone he met.

He is survived by his Beloved Wife Jill; Daughter Dawn; Son Robert III; and Four (4) Grandchildren who brought immense joy to his life.

Bob was preceded in death by his Mother Mary; Father Robert Sr.; Brothers (2) Gary and Walt; and Sisters (3) Linda, Liz, and Chris.

His legacy lives on through the family he loved so deeply and the many lives he touched along the way. May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him.

A Graveside Service will be held on Wednesday July 30, 2025, from 01:00 PM to 01:30 PM at Willamette National Cemetery 11800 SE Mt. Scott Blvd. Casual Dress.
