Robert "Bob" Shaffer, 87, of Eglon, WV, passed away peacefully on August 28, 2023, at his home surrounded by his loving family. Born on May 31, 1936, in Brookside, WV, he was the son of the late Harold and Annie (O'Haver) Shaffer.
Bob was a friend to all; he and his beloved wife of 62 years, Wilma, would begin each day asking God to use them to help others. He was a blessing to his family and to his community. Bob was a devoted husband and father. In Wilma's later years, he became her primary caregiver and devoted himself to that until her passing in 2018. His love and care for her is a treasured memory for his family.
He could figure out and invent or fix nearly everything that needed worked on. He was a hard-working man; a millwright (member of union local 1024), a welder, and a stone and brick layer. As a Christian, he was very active in his local church for many years. Bob was a charter member of the Mount Grove Volunteer Fire Department. In his later years, he enjoyed finding water and marking wells for his friend, Richard Cato.
Bob is survived by his two sons, Brad Shaffer and wife Terry of Eglon, WV, and Larry Shaffer and wife Jennifer of Lady's Island, SC; five grandchildren, Michelle Berry and husband Donnell of Aurora, WV, Sharon Brinson and husband Micheal of Bluffton, SC, Alicia Collins and husband J.T. of Deer Park, MD, Erica Anderson and husband Kirby of Winchester, VA, and Jordan Vance of Lady's Island, SC; seven great grandchildren; a sister, Mickie Elliott and companion Chuck; a brother, Bennie Shaffer and wife Kay, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received Thursday, August 31, 2023, from 4 to 7 PM, at Hinkle-Fenner Funeral Home, 567 Thomas Ave., Davis, and on Friday, September 1, 2023, from 10 to 11 AM. A funeral service will be held at 11 AM, in the funeral home, with Pastor Marty Wilt of Underwood United Brethren Church and Pastor Brandon Hutzell of Crossroads Church officiating. Interment will follow in the Accident Community Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to Horizons Academy, 148 Greenwood Lane, Aurora, WV, or Mt. Grove Volunteer Fire Department, Eglon, WV
