Robert Traugott Obituary

Robert "Bob" Traugott

October 7, 1948 - March 9, 2026

On Monday, March 9, 2026, Robert "Bob" Charles Traugott, 77, of Charlottesville, Va., passed away in the tender embrace of his wife of 44 years, Tricia Traugott. It was the fervent prayer of not only his wife, but his loving family and friends, that Bob be released from the cruelness of Alzheimer's and the suffering he endured during his final days on earth. Prayers that he would not be alone when he passed and that he would find comfort and wholeness in the arms of his Savior, Jesus Christ, were answered in many ways. The rallying of his children, siblings, mother in law and immediate family, along with our extended family of friends made these last days special for both of us. A heartfelt thanks to my Mom, sister, Terrie, sister-in-law, Sara and John, daughter-in-law, Shelly and Wes, niece, Ashley and daughter, Jilly and Taylor. The additional tender love from many of the compassionate caregivers at The Blake and Hospice of The Piedmont were unexpected but so warmly received.

Bob was born on October 7, 1948, in San Antonio, Texas, to the late James and Donna Traugott. Bob valued his German/Irish/English heritage and delighted in knowing he was a descendant of John Dod (Dodson) who arrived on the historic ship, the Susan B Constant, in 1607 in Jamestown. Bob was a proud graduate of Texas State University and a devout believer whose faith guided him throughout his life. Most important to Bob was wanting to leave a legacy to his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren of a love and faith in GOD. He honorably served his country in the United States Navy prior to transitioning into a successful career in regional corporate sales. Later, he and his family relocated to Charlottesville, Va., where he began a career in real estate and became a familiar and trusted presence in the community.

Bob had a deep appreciation for history, especially Texas history and the Civil War. His father and grandfather were cattle brokers in South Texas and Bob could often be found quoting sayings from his favorite movie, Lonesome Dove. He enjoyed holding his grandchildren and great grandchildren and spending time outdoors, often relaxing around his fire pit with a glass of Virginia wine. His warmth, sense of humor and twinkle in his eye will be heartwarmingly remembered and carry us through as we miss his physical presence. He could always be counted on for a laugh, hugs and pats on the back.

Bob was a "man's man", a gentleman, and crazy about his sons and daughter. He will be truly missed and made a mark on us all.

Bob is survived by his wife, Tricia Ann Traugott, and her Texas family; his mother-in-law, Beatrice Butcher; children, Wes Traugott and his loving wife of 30 years, Shelly, Kurt Traugott and Jenifer, Brian Traugott and Carolina, and Jillian Traugott Curran and her husband, Taylor Curran. He is also survived by his siblings: John and his wife, Sara, Mary Meriwether, Paul, Tom, "Dino" and wife, Cynthia, and Joe Traugott.

Bob was blessed with his precious grandchildren, Tyler, Jordan, and Brooke and Kayla, Virginia, Gus, Liz, Evie and Lulu, Pennsylvania, Elena and Benji, Washington and Jameson, Rowan and McCoy, Massachusetts. Three great-grands added even more to his life, Luke, Amelia and Raelynn.

Bob lived his life like one of his favorite Lonesome Dove quotes: "It's been quite a party, ain't it".

A service honoring Bob's life and faith will be held on Monday, April 27, 2026, at 11 a.m. at Spring Hill Baptist Church in Ruckersville, Va., with a reception to follow in the fellowship hall. A private ceremony will be held later in the year in Texas at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, please send contributions to Hospice of the Piedmont at HOPVA.org.

Yesterday

I am so sorry for your loss. Bob was such a great man. I always enjoyed talking to Bob at the office or whenever I would run into him. He always would give me a hug, and he could make you smile even where you were having a bad day. My thoughts and prayers go out to the family. He will live forever within our hearts. sincerely Teresa and staff at Charlottesville Dental
