Robert J. Bodnar ("Pop"), 77, of Colonia and Ortley Beach, passed away on Wednesday January 22 nd,
2025, at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Perth Amboy, Robert grew up in Woodbridge where he was a multiple sport athlete. He was a
graduate of Rutgers University with a Finance and Economics degree and served our country in the
Marine Corps during Vietnam. Robert was a hospital administrator at numerous hospitals throughout his
career and retired in 2020. Also, Robert was an active member of the Avenel Marine Corps Detachment
and the Veteran Advocate of New Brunswick.
He was preceded in death by his parents John and Helen Bodnar, brothers John and Richard. Robert is survived by his devoted wife of 52

Brian, his three grandchildren Sean, Amber, Kyle, his sister Helen Derasmo, his sister-in-laws Maria
Ciardiello, Patricia Bodnar, Rose Anne Bodnar and nephew Shayne Bodnar.
Pop was loved by his family and friends, and always tried to make everyone feel welcomed. He really
enjoyed golfing, fishing, and being accompanied by his family attending Rutgers football and basketball
games. He always put everyone first to ensure others were thought of first. He especially enjoyed
attending all of his grandchildren's activities and was always on the sidelines cheering them and their
teammates on.
A memorial mass will be held on Saturday, January 25th at St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Avenel at 9am
followed by interment at St. Gertrude Cemetery in Colonia. In lieu of flowers, please donate in Robert's
