Robert Braden Obituary

Published by Legacy on Dec. 7, 2023.
Robert (Bob) Joseph Braden
November 22, 1943 - December 4, 2023
Robert (Bob) was predeceased by his parents Cecil and Lydia (Maresh) Braden, his sisters Donna Saint Pierre and Doris Fannin, brother-in-laws Charles Anderson and Rick Saint Pierre. Bob is survived by his wife Maggie Braden, sisters Elizabeth (Gary) Vaughan, Alice Anderson, brother-in-law Ray Fannin, children Michelle Paddock and Charles (Melissa) Braden, step-daughter Stephanie Hawkins, grandchildren Kanen Braden, Connelly Braden, step-grandchildren, Summer (Brian) Frizzell, and Jack Hawkins,
Bob was born in Waco, Texas and attended Saint Mary's Catholic School and Reicher Catholic High School. He attended the University of Texas at Austin to study Engineering. Once he moved to Austin, Texas, he was a lifelong member of Saint Louis Church, King of France. He enjoyed a long and successful career at the Texas Department of Transportation, paralleled by an equally fruitful retirement.
Bob lived with gusto and integrity and humor. He was especially generous with his time, talents, and as anyone will attest, with his stories for every occasion. Bob, was a beloved genius of all things mechanical and afficionado of anything motorized with wheels, who lived his motto of "make yourself useful" in many ways. He rode dirt bikes and motorcycles for fifty years.
He participated in shooting competitions with the Austin Gun Club. He spent many years with the Austin Area Car Club and took pride in his 1931 Ford Deluxe Roadster. Bob and Maggie participated in the Holiday Rambler Recreational Vehicle Club traveling across the United States for over twenty years. Along with their RV friends, they enjoyed summers in Chama, New Mexico. Bob leaves a wonderful legacy and will be remembered fondly.
A Memorial Service date is pending but location will be at Saint Louis Catholic Church, 7601 Burnet Road, Austin, Texas. Please check back soon for a confirmed date.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to your favorite charity in Bob's memory.

I was privileged to work as part of a large team of people, led by Bob Braden and charged with implementing a new gargantuan software system for the Texas Department of Transportation. At a celebration of a project milestone (that is, implementing phase I of the new software system), Bob Braden donned a Mad Hatter hat (complete with money) to deliver humorous awards (selected at the dollar store) to the team members. A real morale boost and an indelible memory! Bob was a charming, intelligent, multi-talented leader; and it was a delight to work for him. My heart goes out to his lovely wife and other family members at this time of loss.

Sad to learn you have passed, Robert (Bob). Even more sad to see that there is no obit to tell us more about your life. You were my link to St Mary's school in Waco. I remember the days you and I ran around Waco on our motorscooters (you on your Mustang, me on my Chushman Eagle). I hope your life was a full one.
