Robert C Brandt Sr., 99 1/2, Peacefully passed away on Tuesday, September 10, 2024, at home with his family by his side. Born April 9, 1925, and educated in Schenectady, Robert "Bob" was the only child of the late Carl F and Vera M Brandt (Brown). During the Great Depression, his father developed pneumonia and passed away when he was 7 years old. His mom remarried Charles Brown and became Bobs stepfather. He was a graduate of Schenectady Vocational High School with a degree in printing. At the age of eighteen he joined the US Navy and proudly served his country during WWII as a Gunners Mate in the Pacific on ship LST 740. After all these years he remained emotional when telling stories of WWII and grieving soldiers who paid the ultimate price for freedom.
Bob was employed as a printer at the Maqua Company in Schenectady NY for 17 years. He finished his career working for Fort Orange Press and Bolts Printing in Albany NY.
He was a lifetime member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Schenectady NY and served as an usher for over 50 years. He met his wife, Marilyn Babbitt at Zion when introduced by his cousin Herbert Cummings and they celebrated 66 years of marriage before her passing in 2021. Bob was a member of American Legion Post 1005, VFW Post 1895, Master of Charles W. Mead Mason Lodge and Shriners.
Bob is survived by his children, Lynn A Brandt of Schenectady, Robert C Brandt Jr. (Carol Konazewski) of Schenectady and Sharyn L Brandt Ruzza (Jeff Blau) of Lake George, NY, affectionally known as Bapa to his grandchildren, Kelsey Rrugeja (Madrit), Nikolaus Ruzza (Natalie Ferrara), Todd Brandt (Addie), his dog Lucky and his ex-daughter in law Melissa Cortez Brandt and ex-son in law Dominick Ruzza who he still got along with even though the spouses didn't!
In closing we will add "I love you dad" as you would always say at the end of every phone call and every time, we left the house. Thank you for your years of love, patience, kindness and words of wisdom (although when you let me pay sticker price on my new car and told Bobby not to buy the land in California in the 70s because it was too expensive, not sure if that was your best words of wisdom, but we forgive you).
I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. 2 Timothy 4:7 ESV
In Lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to Pet Connection with Steve Caporizzo, https://www.news10.com/pet-connection or Shriners Hospital.
A visitation will be held on September 24 from 1-3 at Zion Lutheran Church, 153 Nott Terrace, Schenectady 12303 followed by a service at 3pm. Burial will take place at Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, 200 Duell Rd, Schuylerville, NY 12871 on September 25th at 1pm.

Bob and Andrea Rowley

September 18, 2024

Bob has been our neighbor for 47 years. He and Marilyn were always out in front of their house talking to neighbors/friends. He never said a bad word about anyone. He was funny too...always seemed happy and content.
We will miss him...
RIP Bob
