Obituary Robert M. Bumbrey August 27, 1956 – May 4, 2025
Robert M. Bumbrey of Stafford County, Virginia, passed away peacefully on May 4, 2025, at VCU Hospital in Richmond, Virginia. He was born on August 27, 1956, to the late Martha E. Bumbrey (née Harris) and Robert L. Bumbrey.
Robert will be lovingly remembered for his deep love for his family and his lifelong passion for cars. He found great joy in watching drag racing, attending car shows, and proudly showcasing his own vehicles. A true car enthusiast, Robert was once a member of the "Shifting Chevys" car club, where he built lasting friendships through their shared love of the open road and chrome detailing.
Known for his sense of humor and quick wit, Robert was the family jokester-always ready with a playful prank or one of his famous sayings like, "Poor fella," or "I am deeply wounded." His laughter and spirited nature will be missed most dearly by his family, especially his niece, who cherished his joyful presence.
Robert was the only son among six children and, as his sisters recalled, he was the "spoiled" the baby of the family. But while the dolls didn't leave much of an impression on him, the cars certainly did. He spent countless hours working under the hood, always perfecting his craft and sharing his knowledge.
Robert is survived by his sisters Helen Johnson (Russell), Maryann Johnson, and Evelyn Jones; his nieces Jwan Johnson and Yvette Parker; his nephews Quincy Allen, Terrell Allen, Steven Bumbrey, Brad Johnson, Russell Johnson II, and Raynard Kendall; his great-nephew Lanny Jones; his beloved aunt, Susie Hamn; and a host of extended family and dear friends who will forever hold him in their hearts.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Martha Bumbrey and Robert L. Bumbrey; his sisters Betty J. Allen and Dorothy M. Allen.
A private family viewing and celebration of life will be held on Saturday, May 17, 2025, at Agape Life Services Funeral Home, located at 2105 Emancipation Hwy, Fredericksburg, VA 22401, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM.
