Alvin Boatwright Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Agape Life Services Funeral Home on Feb. 12, 2026.
ALVIN ANDRE BOATWRIGHT

"ASAOK"

08/11/1952 – 01/23/2026

Though Parkinson's Disease and Esophageal Cancer may have ultimately taken him on

January 23, 2026, they could never dim his light. Now finally free from all the ailments

that tried to steal his joy, he is reunited with his parents, Otis & Etta Boatwright and his

brother Tommy Boatwright, in his new home with His Heavenly Father. A devoted

family man, who spoke and lived his faith, Alvin found comfort in his life's journey with

his family: his wife Sheila, his son Philip, daughter Lauren and his grandsons #1 (

Jashaad), #2 (Isaiah), #3 (Cameron), #4 (Julian) and #5 (Johnathan).

Illustrated by his collection of albums and CDs, Alvin was an avid music fan whose

musical taste crossed all genres. Traveling with his ever-trusty boombox, family and

friends knew Alvin could be counted on to provide music without notice…especially his

favorites-Earth, Wind and Fire, The O'Jays, Fleetwood Mac, Chicago, Stevie, Barbra

Streisand, Marvin Gaye and Nancy Wilson, and if at Christmas time, his favorite

Christmas song: "Mary, Did You Know?"

Besides his music collection, Alvin had a DVD collection that would put Blockbuster (if it

was still in business) to shame…alphabetized by title, he could glance and tell you

which one was missing or had been moved. Not returning a borrowed DVD placed you

on the banned list.

The Negro League, Fred Nats…Dodgers…Chargers…Cowboys. Alvin's collection of

jerseys, jackets and memorabilia crowd his man cave. A player and lover of the games,

to get a conversation going, you only needed to mention baseball or football…you

would hear history and little tidbits. And don't mention golf! Lordy, like anything he took

a real interest in, the topic became an obsession…equipment, gadgets, books, and

study. He may not have mastered it but he would give it his best.

Always seeking to make life easier and more beautiful for those in his circle, Alvin was

forever sharing his wisdom, his love, and his guidance. "Two plus two will always be

four" and "Too close to the blackboard" frustrated the heck out of his daughter,

grandsons, and friends alike, but along with the frustration of hearing those repeated

phrases came life lessons that stand the test of time.

Each day he would find a way to help others, 95% of them strangers, with ASAOK (A

Simple Act Of Kindness). Not a saint but a God-fearing man who tried to demonstrate

that faith in his daily life and actions, Alvin decided to live his way even thru the end. A

man of God, Alvin kept Krispy Kreme in business as he took donuts to working postal

workers, to the homeless on Route 3, or to anyone he felt needed ASAOK.

Naming all of Alvin's extended family-his sister, Carolyn, his niece Shronda, other

nieces and nephews, brother- and sisters-in law, Aunt Velma, his Uncles Poe and Josh,

numerous cousins, beloved friends and friends who became family…would take

forever…just know he was loved and he will be missed.

A really good person, a loving husband who managed to be full of surprises, patient

father and grandfather imparting words of wisdom but quick with a rebuke if he thought

one was not listening. Sharing a quick smile and a helping hand, Alvin will be forever in

our hearts and minds as we wade through the stuff he has accumulated.
