Robert Burchette Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by H.D Oliver Funeral Apartments, Inc. - Laskin Road Chapel on Apr. 1, 2024.
Bob Burchette accepted his casting call to Heaven on March 22, 2024. He has gone home to his Father and is truly at peace with the Lord. The son of M. Eugene and Rosalie W. Burchette, he is survived by his wife of 64 years, Beverley Burchette, his son, Stephen Burchette and wife Julie, daughter Leigh Lazos, grandchildren Emilly Mullen and husband Kevin, Claire Daugherty, Collin Burchette, Kelly Burchette, Katie Burchette, and his two great grandsons Will and Nathan.
Bob was a graduate of William & Mary College where he met and married Beverley. They started their journey in Roanoke, VA, where Bob began his successful career with the C&P Telephone Company. His executive position eventually brought him to Virginia Beach, which he and Beverley called home and raised their family.
His life was enriched by his many life-long friends, his passion for acting, and love of gardening and travel. Bob and Bev traveled the world with their cherished friends, sharing wonderful stories of adventure with his family. Bob especially enjoyed his annual summer vacations to Shrine Mont with his beloved extended Shrine Mont family.
With his family, he attended and served in multiple volunteer positions at Eastern Shore Chapel Episcopal Church. Additionally, he enjoyed community service including reading for the blind, reading for students in local elementary schools, and fund raising for WHRO.
Bob and Bev were avid patrons of the arts, including theater, art museums, music, and cinema. Bob is remembered for his numerous stage productions, earning him multiple Portfolio Magazine Best Actor Awards. Additionally, he performed in TV movies and series, including one of his favorite roles as Dr, Alex Greely in CBN's soap opera, Another Life.
Bob's love of the Lord, family, friends, and community will continue on as his legacy for generations to come.
"Well done, good and faithful servant."
Bob wants us all to know that "The show must go on."
A Celebration of Life will be held at Eastern Shore Chapel Episcopal Church, 2020 Laskin Rd, Virginia Beach, VA, 23454 on Saturday June 8, 2024 11:00 AM. A reception will follow in the church parish hall. Memorial contributions may be made to the Parkinson's Foundation or Shrine Mont.

I was so sorry to hear of Bob Burchette passing. He was such a sweet and caring man. I was fortunate to be able to share the stage with him in many plays. Bob was my idol and I would always audition for plays whenever possible just to be on stage with him.

Bob´s Amazing soul and voice will always resonate throughout the walls of Eastern Shore Chapel. He made the Scriptures come alive and resonate in the hearts of all who heard him.
Now his voice will thunder in heaven. I miss him so.
With my love and blessings, Heidi

I was lucky enough to share the stage with Bob in a production at the Little Theater of Virginia Beach many years ago. He was a joy to work with and I will miss hearing him read at church. My condolences to the family.

I really enjoyed listening to him read or talk. His voice was wonderful! My condolences to his family, especially Bev. I'm sure the Lord has plenty of acting roles for Bob!

Bob was a valued and dedicated reader for The WHRO Voice reading service for the blind and vision impaired. His dignified presence over the air provided many vision impaired members across Hampton Roads with a friendly voice reconnecting them again with their local papers and community. He and his co-reader, Shirley Robertson, shared the mike for many years highlighting the news from The Virginian Pilot. Shirley passed away in 2021. Thank you Bob for your service and guiding presence as a member of our volunteer reading team.

Bob was a beloved friend with whom I had a long friendship and many laughs. I have loved Bob and his wife Bev for 50 years and we shared many experiences and fun experiences supporting each other in times of happiness and sadness. May he RIP and may Bev find comfort in this message.

Bob was my go to resident at Atlantic Shores for many years. He chaired the ground committee and we did monthly tours for years. His gentle soul and overall personality drew me to him. He was a leader and a father figure to many. We had countless conversations regarding his garden and love of nature. I am a better person having know him. Thank you Bob. God Bless and God Speed.

I worked for Bob in 1982 as a sales manager in Baltimore. Bob was a great leader with an excellent sense of humor. I gave great memories of attending his staff meetings in Virginia Beach including dinners at Steinhilber's Restaurant.
