Robert Burgess Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Usrey Brown Funeral Service on Aug. 24, 2025.

Robert Michael Burgess, "Mike", 85 years young, of Talladega, Alabama, passed away

peacefully on August 24, 2025. He was born March 15, 1940, in Talladega, the son of

Robert Lee and Mary Eloise (Davis) Burgess. His family will receive friends at Usrey Funeral Home of Talladega on Friday, August 29, 2025, from 2:00 P.M. until 3:00 P.M. A graveside ceremony will be held in his honor at 3:30 P.M. on Friday, August 29, 2025, at Oak Hill Cemetery with Robert Klotz officiating.

He lived a long fulfilling life full of faith, family, and fun. Mike's joy for living (and for

Auburn football) shined every day and he never met a stranger. He filled a room with his

sense of humor and was always dressed in style. His kindness was recognized by all,

and he was the best at knowing your favorites-a master of gift giving. His love for

music, football, arts and entertainment, antiquing ("picking" or finding treasures as we

called it) were tremendous but his big love for his family especially his children,

grandchildren, and for Jesus surpassed all. He will always be remembered as the best

and happiest Granddaddy. His fondness for coconut macarons, fruity desserts, and love

for making the best pimento cheese will also always be remembered.

Mike is survived by his daughters, Mindy (Jimmy) Scoggins of Helena, Robin Jones of

Pelham, and Christy (Ben) Bramblett of Tennessee, as well as his son, Jeremy Burgess

of Birmingham; he is preceded in death by his eldest son, Michael Burgess and

grandsons, Jason Scoggins and Camden Jones. He is also survived by his sister Judy

Mock of Talladega along with his niece, Susan Mock and nephew, John David Mock.

Granddaddy leaves behind his granddaughters, Jennifer (Jamie) Garrett, Lindsay

(Mark) Edmonds, Lauren (Elliott) Sims, India Bramblett, and Alice Bramblett, as well as

his grandson, James Bramblett. He also had a great love for his great grandchildren

(and great great, Sarah James Garrett) he left behind: Reed (Kori) Garrett, Rhett

(Carlee) Garrett, Mary Eloise Scoggins, Jameson Sims, Amelia Sims, and Ethan

Edmonds. And last but certainly not least, he is survived by his Sylacauga family who

he shared a deep appreciation and love for especially Bruce and Mary Brooks.

Mr. Burgess might be gone from this life, but he will never be forgotten. He would want

you to love with all your heart and to forgive.

For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the

present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all

creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our

Lord.

-Romans 8:38-39
