Robert Daniel Butman, "Bobby" "Bob", 61, of Niles, Illinois, passed away December 5, 2025 at Evanston hospital, after a reoccurring battle with cancer.
Born at Edgewater Hospital, Robert was the third of four sons born to Ben (a Holocaust survivor) and Florence. Bob and his brothers, "The Butman Boys" were raised in West Rogers Park and were lucky enough to live with their uncle Marv, and grandpa Louie, in addition to their parents. Bob graduated from Rogers Elementary school, Mather High School (where he was the starting center fielder), and from Northeastern Illinois University, where he received his B.A. in Criminal Justice. In 1990, Bob started working for the Department of Justice, United States Immigration and Naturalization Service, where he met the love of his life and future wife, Marlene. A natural athlete, he loved Chicago sports, particularly the Chicago White Sox (he hated the Cubs).
Bob was the loving husband of his devoted late wife of 24 years, Marlene Butman Palao, who preceded him in death in 2016.
Loving father of Trevor Benjamin Butman of Niles and twins Jacob Butman of Niles and Daniela Butman of Franklin, WI. Brother of Alan (Sharon) Butman of Glenview, Steve Butman of Northbrook, and Gary (Sue) Butman of Lincolnshire. Fond uncle of Zion and Ethan Butman. Lifelong friend of Bart Hoffman and Benjamin "Butch" Rubin.
Bob was also preceded in death by parents Benjamin "Benny" and Florence (nee Cohen) Butman and uncle Marvin Cohen, who was like a second father to the Butman Boys.
Funeral service 11am, Wednesday, December 10, at Maryhill Cemetery Chapel, 8600 N. Milwaukee, Niles, IL 60714. Entombment to follow. Friends and family will gather after the cemetery (1-5pm) at Max and Benny's, 461 N. Waukegan Rd., Northbrook 60062.
