It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Robert Douglas Byrd on February 20, 2024, at the age of 57. Born in Astoria, Oregon, on November 23, 1966, to his late parents Diane and Melvin Byrd, Robert's departure is felt deeply by his family and the community that knew him well.
He is lovingly remembered by his sister Cheryl Byrd, a nephew Rogan, his children, Kirith Ryman, Douglas Byrd, and Shawn Byrd, and his adored grandchildren, Robert C. Byrd, Kaden Steele, Sophia Byrd, Collin Byrd, and Claire Ryman. He is also loved and remembered by his Aunts and Uncles and his closest friends.
His life was a beacon of diligence and compassion, and his passing leaves behind a legacy that will continue to resonate through the generations. Robert's professional life was characterized by steadfast dedication, beginning with his tenure at Napa Auto Parts immediately after high school and continuing through his time at North Coast Auto. His career concluded with valued years at Trails End Recovery and Custom Excavating, where his work ethic never wavered. A man of the outdoors, Robert's hobbies reflected his deep appreciation for the Oregon coast. His search for driftwood and love for collecting glass floats and maritime memorabilia were more than pastimes; they were expressions of his connection to the land he called home. Known for his ever-present smile and generous nature, Robert's readiness to assist others and his unwavering kindness made him a cherished figure in his community. His life was a testament to the virtues of hard work, family devotion, and the simple joys of life.
As we bid Robert Douglas Byrd farewell, we do so with gratitude for the quiet strength and boundless generosity he shared with us all. His memory will be safeguarded in the stories passed down through his family and in the indelible mark he left on his community.
