Robert “Bob” C. Vander Linden, 97, passed away peacefully on 9/12/23 @ Frontida Assisted Living in Kimberly. He was the son of Charles and Irene (Wettengel) Vander Linden. Bob graduated from Appleton High School, and in 1943 joined the United States Army Air Force as a radio man in a B-17 crew in service of his country. When he returned home, he joined AT&T and enjoyed 39 years of employment there. He was a long-time member of the St. Mary’s Appleton church choir, and an avid golfer and bowler. He had a few 600 series in bowling, and the pinnacle of his golfing pursuit was a double eagle
at Reid Muni.
Bob is survived by his wife of 71 years: Betty; his children: Cynthia (Michael) Garvey; Jaculin Penkala; Charles (Jennifer) Vander Linden; grandchildren: Roxanne Jeske (Tom Savage); Matthew (Alexandria) Claus; Jennifer (Josh) Junghans; Kati, Emily and Anne Vander Linden; great grandchildren: Christian, Leo, Sylas and Isaiah; sister-in-law: Pat Myers; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Bob was preceded in death by his daughter: Deborah; son-in-law Michael; sister: Marge (Paul) Nespodzany; and brother Tom (Ethel) Vander Linden.
A funeral mass will be held at 11:00 am, Monday, September 18, 2023, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 222 E. Fremont Street, Appleton WI, with Father John Katamba officiating. Visitation will be held Monday at the church from 9:00 am until the time of the mass. Interment will be in Highland Memorial Park, Appleton at 3:00 PM Monday.
Bob’s family would like to thank all the staff at Frontida, as well as St. Croix Hospice, for their outstanding tender care and amazing compassion.
