Robert "Bob" John Caverlee, Jr. passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 30, 2025, surrounded by his wife and two daughters, Renée and Lauren.
Bob was born on November 13, 1941, in
Chicago, Illinois, to Robert John Caverlee, Sr. and Constance McReynolds Caverlee. The eldest of four boys, Bob's childhood was shaped by early loss. After the passing of his father when Bob was nine years old, his mother moved the family to Monroe, Louisiana, where he and his brothers were raised.
A proud 1959 graduate of Neville High School, Bob went on to earn his undergraduate degree from Louisiana Tech University, followed by a Master of Business Administration from Louisiana State University. Soon after, he began his career in commercial lending in Memphis, Tennessee. His professional journey later took him to Shreveport, Louisiana, where he met his wife, Margaret Colon. Bob and Margaret married and ultimately settled in
Dallas, Texas, where they built their life together and where Bob spent the remainder of his career. Throughout his decades in banking, he excelled in every facet of commercial lending and formed many lifelong friendships.
Bob was a devoted husband and father. After growing up in a home full of boys, raising two daughters brought him immense joy. He cherished attending their dance recitals, gymnastics meets, and every Lake Highlands High School football game in the late 1990s to watch Lauren perform. When Renée chose to attend the University of Oklahoma, Bob fully embraced becoming an OU superfan. A constant encourager, Bob championed his daughters in every endeavor, inspiring them to pursue excellence personally and professionally.
Though he dedicated much of his life to his work, Bob made time for the things he loved most. He greatly enjoyed annual family vacations throughout the Southwest and held a deep affection for New Mexico-its art, food, architecture, and landscapes. An active and energetic person, Bob spent many years running and biking around White Rock Lake, swimming, and staying fit at the gym. He also enjoyed exploring farmers' markets and discovering new Dallas restaurants to share with his daughters when they returned home from college.
Bob is preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Samuel William Caverlee. He is survived by his loving wife, Margaret; his daughters, Ellen Renée Harriman (Don) of Pensacola, Florida, and Lauren Caverlee Wood (Larry) of Houston, Texas; his brothers, James Borden Caverlee, Sr. (Janis) of Marietta, Georgia, and William Joseph Caverlee of Monroe, Louisiana; and his sister-in-law, Ellen Gardner Caverlee, of Shreveport, Louisiana.
Bob was affectionately known as "Papa" to his beloved grandchildren, Ellen Sayer Wood and Andrew John Caverlee Wood. He also loved his nephews-John Caverlee, James Buchanan Caverlee, James Borden Caverlee, Jr., George Caverlee, and Robert Caverlee-holding his extended family close to his heart.
Bob will be remembered for his kindness, his dedication to family, and the steadfast love he showed throughout his life.
A memorial service is planned for Saturday January 24th, 2025 in the Cox Chapel at Highland Park United Methodist Church at 10 am. There will be a reception immediately following the service in the Fellowship Hall.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made online to Gladney Center for Adoption at iamgladney.org or the
