Robert Wayne "Bob" Chambliss, Sr., a cherished father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 14, 2025, at Unity Point Health – Trinity Muscatine Hospital in Muscatine, Iowa.
Bob was born on Wednesday, March 11, 1942, the son of Gerald and Norma Birkhofer Chambliss. He married Judy Anson in 1960 in Muscatine, they were later divorced. He married Judy Hyink in 1980. She preceded him in death.
Bob's life was marked by his dedication to his family, his work, and his community. He was a loving father to Rob (Terri) Chambliss of Muscatine, IA, Brad (Angela) Chambliss of Navarre, FL, Leanne Chambliss Petersen of Muscatine, IA, Steve (Vickie) Passmore of Kalona, IA; and one step-daughter, Jenny Peters. His legacy continues through his eleven grandchildren, Dustin Chambliss, Katie Carolan, Clayton Chambliss, Amber Reichert, Austin Petersen, Taryn Peterson, Gage Chambliss, Ben Passmore, Chris Passmore, Zach Passmore, and Jesse Campbell, as well as his eighteen great-grandchildren who brought immense joy to his life.
Bob was the beloved brother of Shirley Grunder of Muscatine, IA; and brother-in-law of Diane Chambliss and Douglas Anson. He had many nieces and nephews; and held dear memories of his special friends, Lois Greenwald and Jerry Truitt. His life was enriched by their companionship and unwavering support. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Judy Hyink Chambliss, his sisters Janet, in infancy, and Patricia Parker, his brothers Ronald and Richard, his grandson Cory, and two great-granddaughters, Skyler Peterson and Liliana Passmore.
Professionally, Bob was a dedicated truck driver for Daufeldt Transport, where he retired in 2020 after 40 years of service. His colleagues at Daufeldt Transport became his second family, caring for him with great affection throughout his career. Bob's commitment and work ethic were exemplary, earning him the respect and admiration of all who worked alongside him.
Bob's interests were a reflection of his love for life and community. In his younger years, he enjoyed camping, an activity that allowed him to embrace the beauty of nature and the joy of adventure. A fervent supporter of the Hawkeyes, Bob's enthusiasm for baseball and football was infectious. He also found pleasure in playing cards with his buddies, sharing laughter and camaraderie over friendly games.
One of Bob's favorite destinations was Branson, MO, where he loved to take trips and immerse himself in the entertainment and warmth of the town. Many affectionately knew him as "Topper," a nickname that captured his cheerful spirit. His passion for baseball extended beyond fandom as he coached little league baseball for many years, influencing and shaping the lives of young athletes with his guidance and encouragement.
Bob Chambliss will be remembered for the love he shared, the lives he touched, and the memories he created. His friendly demeanor and thoughtful ways made him an irreplaceable presence in the lives of his family and friends. As we bid farewell to Bob, we celebrate a life well-lived, full of love, laughter, and the simple pleasures that make life worth living.
His story does not end with his passing but continues in the hearts of those who loved him. Bob's legacy of kindness, dedication, and joy will be cherished and honored by all who had the privilege of knowing him. As we reflect on his life, we are reminded of the impact one person can have on so many, and we are grateful for the time we spent with our dear Bob. May he rest in peace, knowing that his life was a testament to the beauty of a life well-lived.
No public services are planned. A private family farewell will be held at a later date.
