Robert William Colby

FORT WORTH - It is with deep sorrow and much love that we announce the passing of Robert "Rob" William Colby of Fort Worth, Texas. Rob passed away Sept. 23, 2023, at the age of 38. Rob was guided by his Catholic faith and now rests in his eternal home.
Rob was born in Fort Worth, Texas Sept. 28, 1984, at Harris Methodist Hospital to his parents, Robert and Becky Colby.
Rob attended Saint Andrew Catholic elementary school and was a proud graduate of Fort Worth Country Day School, Class of 2003. During his high school years, he played football and soccer, ran track, and played trumpet in the band. Rob went on to attend the United States Air Force Academy graduating in 2007 where he received his BS in Business and was a member of the Honor Guard. He furthered his education because of his love for learning and earned a MA degree in Organizational Leadership from Gonzaga University. He was commissioned as a second lieutenant and graduated from flight school at Vance AFB, in Enid, Okla. Rob was then stationed at Fairchild AFB in Spokane, Wash. Eventually he was promoted to flight commander of the KC-135 refueling tanker. Robert served seven years in the U.S. Air Force, where he flew numerous missions over Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. After retiring from the U.S. Air Force, he joined Edward Jones as an investment consultant. Later, Rob found his passion in insurance and joined State Farm and opened his own agency in 2018.
Rob was a born protector, loved his family and loved to fly. His happiest times came when traveling with his family and the love of his life, Kathleen. Whether it was city bike tours, a beach trip with all three boys, or playing football with his sons, this portrayed his outgoing nature and immense happiness. He had an infectious laugh and was an avid board game player. He had a soft spot for furry friends as he treated his dogs Lilly, Molly and Charlie as valuable family members. His boys Robert and Austin exhibit the best of Rob and will continue to carry on his legacy.
Rob is survived by his wife, Kathleen; Rob's sons, Robert and Austin Colby and Kathleen's son, Weston; parents, Robert and Becky Colby; brother, James and sister, Lauren (Mark) McKinney; grandfather, Donald along with numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and his wonderful and loving State Farm family.
Rob was preceded in death by his grandparents, Hortencia and Robert Tibuni and Delfina Colby; great-grandparents, Mary and Ernesto Escontrias, Frieda and Elmer Colby, Isaura and Fidel Tibuni and Lorenza and Francisco Valenzuela.
Family and friends are invited to attend Rob's visitation, which will be held Sunday, Oct. 8, 2023, from 3 to 5 p.m. at Greenwood Funeral Homes and Cremation located at 3100 White Settlement Rd., Fort Worth, Texas 76107.
A funeral mass will be held in his honor Monday, Oct. 9, 2023, at 11 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church, 6150 Pershing Avenue, Fort Worth, Texas 76107.
