Funeral Mass will be 10:30am, Monday, October 20, 2025 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Watertown.
Visitation will be 4:00-7:00pm, Sunday, October 19, 2025, with a scripture service at 7:00pm followed by a Time of Sharing, at Wight & Comes Funeral Chapel in Watertown.
Interment will be at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Waverly, SD. Pallbearers will be, Jenna Moffatt, Austin Comes, Aden Comes, Brock Hanten, Caleb Vogel, Carson Britzman, Jacob Comes and Bailey Comes.
Robert "Bob" Comes was born on January 10, 1937 in Watertown, SD to Ernest and Erma (Kerssen) Comes. He grew up and went to school in Waverly, SD, graduating in 1955. On July 5, 1958 he was united in marriage to Anna Mae Witt at the Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Kranzburg, SD. The couple resided in Watertown until 1964 when they moved to the farm to make their home and raise their children. Bob operated a haying and trucking business while also farming alongside his father. He led a flax straw baling crew that raked, baled and hauled flax straw for Olin, traveling from South Dakota up to the Canadian border. In 1976, he bought his Uncle John's farm. Bob was a proud owner of his "Ford" brand products, from pickups to tractors to trucks to his converted school bus camper.
Bob also drove school bus, part-time as a high school junior and full-time as a senior and continued into his later years. He was a member of the Waverly School board for many years.
Aside from farming and driving bus, Bob enjoyed bowling, golfing, softball and playing swick with friends. He was always up for a game of pinochle and enjoyed family gatherings. He loved making pork loin and grilling the loin for many events, from graduations to National Guard events.
Bob is survived by and will be deeply missed by his children, Michael (Barbara Jo) Comes of Watertown, SD, Marty (Tami) Comes of Watertown, SD, Mark (Jill) Comes of Waverly, SD, Monica (Todd) Hanten of Bemis, SD, Marlene (Chad) Vogel of Minot, ND, Maxine (Stacy) Britzman of Watertown, SD, Marlyn (Pam) Comes of Farmington, MN and Morrie (Brenda) Comes of Watertown, SD; 23 grandchildren, Jenna (Mark) Moffatt, Jaclyn (Lauren Kunz) Comes, Austin (Selah) Comes, Aspen Comes, Alexa Comes, Derek (Dara) Klatt, Payton (Zach) Stoltenburg, Aden Comes, Brittany (Tyrel) Kool, Brock (Allie) Hanten, Courtney (Ethan) Erickson, Caleb (Ashley) Vogel, Caitlyn (Mark) Medalen, Carter Vogel, Chandler (Cody) Nelson, Carson (Reagan) Britzman, Sidney Comes, Jacob Comes, Avery Comes, Bailey Comes, Hannah (Dillon) Kranz, Owen Comes and Evan Comes; 16 great grandchildren and three on the way; his sisters, Pat (Bob) Lynch of Duluth, MN and Gail (Gordon) Bunting of Revillo, SD; and his brother, Ron (Vicky) Comes of Estelline, SD.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Anna Mae; his parents; and his brother, Donald Comes.
