Robert Ocie Conner passed away peacefully on May 15, 2025, at the age of 86. Born on July 10, 1938 in Duncan, OK, Robert was a third-generation sandblaster and stone cutter who proudly owned and operated his own cemetery monument stonecutting company, Midwest Cemetery Lettering, leaving a legacy of artistry on signs, rocks, and memorials across the region.
Bob's zest for life was evident in his array of interests and talents. A prominent figure in the local dance community, he was a longtime member of the Michigan Two Steppers and the Kal-Creek Kickers with his wife Sharon. His passion for line dancing led him to teach others for many years, and his skills were recognized on national television.
An avid outdoorsman, Bob found solace in the tranquility of Thornapple Lake, where he spent many days fishing. Winters were a time for adventure as he and his beloved wife, Sharon, traveled the country in their motorhome, soaking up the warmth of Florida's sunshine.
Bob's dexterity extended beyond his professional work. He was known for his ability to fix and build anything, including repairing TVs for Bullings Appliances and delivering Fuel Oil for Cappons during the colder months. His love for staying active was matched by his enjoyment of playing cards, visiting casinos, and creating delectable treats like his famous frosty pumpkin pie and cherry coke salad.
Bob is survived by his daughters: Bobbie (Raul) Herrera and Brenda (Galen) Rosel; grandchildren: Derek (Grace Carpenter) Rosel, Keeley (Justin) Mezsets, Madison (Trent Musk) Rosel, Eduardo Herrera, Robert (Bree) Herrera, and Emily Herrera; great grandchildren: Alexia, Aria, Eduardo, Jace, Huxley; brother, James (Gerda) Conner, exchange students: Lourens Worst, Carlos Solanilla, Romy Worst; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his dear wife, Sharon, and son, Steve Conner, and parents: James and Louise (Matlock) Conner
Relatives and friends may meet with Bob's family on Wednesday, May 21 from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Beeler-Gores Funeral Home in Middleville. I am so sorry to hear of Bob's passing! I got to know him very well as I work at State Farm in Hastings. He was just the sweetest man. I always enjoyed him stopping in from time to time to visit me. He will be missed
