Robert DeLorenzo Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Armer Funeral Home, Inc. - Ballston Spa on Jan. 4, 2026.
Robert F. "Bob" DeLorenzo, 80, took his final ride on January 1st, 2026, passing away at his beautiful log home on the DeLorenzo Ranch in Middle Grove, NY.
Born in Albany on September 21, 1945, to Anthony and Althea DeLorenzo, Bob's life was shaped by the dirt and grit of his family's small farm in Voorheesville. There, alongside his brother Tom, Bob spent his childhood reenacting Saturday morning westerns on horseback-a hobby that, fostered by his mother's encouragement, grew into a lifelong calling.
A 1963 graduate of Voorheesville High School, Bob dedicated his life to the horse. From shoeing reining horses at Willow Brook Farms to then managing Goodrich Farm to eventually establishing DeLorenzo Training, he remained a perpetual student of his craft. Under his watch, a horse didn't just learn to ride; they learned to load, tie, score, work a cow, and run barrels. Most importantly, they learned a work ethic that mirrored his own.
Bob's life was a family affair. He shared his passion for rodeoing and training first with his wife Ronnie and their daughters, Lara and Maria. Later, he continued ranching, roping and hosting clinics with his second wife, Nancy, and her children, Katie, Dede, and Trey. Between the farm and the rodeos, Bob and Nancy found joy in motorhome travels out west, golf outings, and off-property lunch breaks. During the winter months, Bob was equally masterful at what he cheekily called his "Second Job" at the Saratoga Casino, where his quick wit and sharp mind were always on display.
To meet Bob was to meet a man of quiet demeanor and brutal honesty. Beneath the downturned brim of his cowboy hat lived a man who didn't mince words but was endlessly generous with his time and knowledge. Whether in Buskirk or Middle Grove, anyone who could open the barn door could learn how to rope from "Bobby D." His students often joked they both loved and loathed him in the arena, but they walked away with life lessons they would value forever.
He leaves behind a family who shared his dust and his dreams: his wife Nancy; his daughters Lara (Curtis) DeLorenzo Sims, and Maria Crounse; his step-children Katie (Rob) Duell, Dede (Kevin) Koryto, and Trey (Caitlin) Zyskowski; and his brother Thomas (Patricia) DeLorenzo. Bob also has many cherished grandchildren who have all learned lessons on the farm: Travis Crounse, Brandon and Alexander Koryto, Brynn and Bryce Duell, and Olivia Zyskowski. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. He joins his parents and those who went before him in the "big pasture," where the rides are long and the burdens are light.
Bob DeLorenzo competed in life as honestly as the horses he rode, in a manner as clean and pure as the wind that blows across this great land. As he makes his inevitable ride to that country up there-where the grass grows, lush, green and stirrup-high and the water runs cool, clear, and deep-we know the Great Judge has told Bob his entry fees are already paid. (referencing the beloved "Cowboy Prayer")
Blessed thanks to Community Hospice, Avery Roberts, Tracy Noble, and all the family and friends who communicated well wishes in these final days.
Details for a memorial event in the warmer months will be forthcoming.
