Robert Derderian Obituary
Robert Stanley Derderian of Newtown, PA passed peacefully on Sunday, August 24, 2025 at the age of 83. Born in New York City, Bobby was a loving son of the late Renee Gevrekian and Charles Derderian, Armenian immigrants from Turkey and France respectively. He grew up in Cresskill, NJ, married Jeanne L. Davis of Dover, NJ in 1967, and went on to receive his BA in Math from Fairleigh Dickinson University in 1974. He enjoyed a long career at Bell Labs/Lucent as an Information Technologist before retiring in 1998.
Though Bob and Jeanne ended their marriage after almost three decades, they remained the closest of friends, to the delight of their family. Throughout his life, Bobby cherished forming relationships and often shared his deep Catholic faith with those around him. As a member of the St. Therese Council of the Knight of Columbus (Succasunna, NJ), an organizing member of DBSA in Bergen County, and active participant in several men's prayer groups and retreats through St. Andrews Church (Newtown, PA), he touched many lives with his quiet yet powerful ways. One great dream of his was to go on a pilgrimage and he was blessed to visit Medjugorje twice (2017 and 2019).
Bobby was athletic and enjoyed playing many sports, especially volleyball. Later in life he was a passionate spectator as his daughters - then grandchildren - engaged in soccer, cross country, baseball, ice hockey, and track & field events. Gramps (as he loved to be called!) also exercised his mind by playing backgammon, sudoku, cards, and frequently joining friends for trivia nights. In retirement, he served as an usher and Eucharistic Minister at St. Andrews and in his free time worked diligently with A Baby's Breath, promoting their pro-life cause by collecting many local community sponsors throughout his years in Newtown.
In 2018, Bobby moved to Friends Home and Village in Newtown, PA. There he lifted those around him - staff as well as residents. He was always available to drive a friend wherever they needed to go! Most recently he started "Meeting My Friends," a social gathering where residents share and listen to each other's stories. He touched many lives, will be remembered affectionately, and greatly missed.
Our Gramps is survived by his former wife Jeanne, her husband Gary Hall, his daughter Theresa, her husband Bob Puckett and their sons Elliot and Colin, his daughter Corinne, her husband John Kilkeary, and their daughters Eileen and Renee. He is also survived by his sister Diane "DeeDee" and her husband Bob Hesse, his brother John Derderian and his wife Kathy, and numerous beloved nieces, nephews and friends.
Bobby's family will receive friends on Friday, September 19, 2025 from 10:30a.m. until his Funeral Mass 11:30a.m. at St. Andrew's Catholic Church, 81 Swamp Road Newtown, PA 18940. His interment with Military Honors will follow at Washington Crossing National Cemetery in Newtown, PA.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to either Friends Village, 50 South Congress St. Newtown, PA 18940 or A Baby's Breath, 65 W. Street Road Bldg B Ste 203 Warminster, PA 18974.
