Robert (Bob) F. Derenski, 79, of Wheeling Illinois, died June 3rd, at his home in Sun City West Arizona.
He was born on May 20th, 1945, to Wanda and Robert Derenski in Chicago, Illinois.
He attended John Carrol University where he met his future wife Terry, and in 1968 were married. They had one son, Brian.
Bob worked initially as a tool and die maker apprentice at Apollo Plastics in Chicago for a few years before entering the police academy. After graduation from the academy, he served the community of Northbrook Illinois for 25 years as a law enforcement o cer. His love of all things railroad led him to open a hobby shop where he proudly helped design and build garden railroads in the north suburbs of Chicago. His knowledge of and friendships with the train club communities stretched across the country.
Bob and Terry moved to Arizona after retirement. Always a specialty car fan, he further expanded his interests in things that moved, and became heavily involved with the SSR car clubs, proudly showing his trucks at rallies and car shows and more recently helping to organize them.
He is preceded in death by wife Terry, and his parents. He is survived by his son Brian, Brian's wife, Karrie, and 3 grandchildren, Evan, Lauren, and Justin. He is also survived by his brother Peter (Christy), sisters Carole (Wayne) and Vicki (Randy) and many nieces and nephews.
A local Celebration of Life service will be held this Friday June 7th at 2PM at Camino del Sol Funeral Home in Sun City West. A later memorial will take place later this summer. In lieu of flowers please donate in Bob's honor to the American Heart Association.
