Robert Dougherty Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Girdner Funeral Chapel - Yreka on Feb. 21, 2026.
Robert ("Bob") Lee Dougherty was born on October 12, 1940, in Winners, South Dakota to Frederick and Meleda Dougherty. Bob loved growing up in rural South Dakota with his four siblings Darrell, Joann, Jim and Patty working the land with the family tractor. After serving in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam war, Bob spent 30 years in Civil Service at Travis Air Force Base. During that time, he met the love of his life Judith Ann (Cranston) Dougherty, with whom he raised two daughters, Heather and Maura. Bob and Judy loved to spend time with family at their cabin on the Sacramento River in Dunsmuir and ultimately moved to Siskiyou County in 1997 following Bob's retirement.

Even in retirement, Bob never stopped working. He kept their home meticulous, offered handy man services to others, cared for his neighborhood, and was always willing to offer a helping hand to anyone in need. Bob was a generous man with his time, treasures, and talent. Many considered Bob a part of their family and an inspiration and example to all who knew him.

At 85, Bob passed peacefully at the Madrone Hospice House in Yreka with his daughter Heather by his side after a week of visits from family and friends. Bob leaves behind his daughter Heather (Fred) Linderman, sister Patty (Ed) Cerney, and five grandchildren; Joshua Wood (Alex Berch), Jacob (Cadi) Wood, Brenna Varela (Rob Harris), Brandon (Tara) Varela, and Bryan (Stephanie) Varela. He was preceded in death by his eternal partner Judy, his beloved daughter Maura and three of his siblings.

A Celebration of Life will be held March 7, 2026, at 1:00p.m. at Pastures of Grace 4720 Scarface Road in Gazelle.
