Robert "Reds" Bernard Eckenrode, 87, passed away peacefully on January 17, 2026 at his home in Allentown, Pennsylvania.
Reds was born on March 12, 1938, in Wilkes Barre, PA to the late Carl and Loretta (Carr) Eckenrode. He enjoyed his childhood getting into trouble in Bethlehem, PA with his siblings, the late Carl and Jack Eckenrode. He wrestled and played football for Liberty High School. Reds married Bettyane in 1962 and they had a full life with three kids. Reds spent his career as a union iron worker, with most of his free time was spent golfing at the family course, Fox Hollow, Wedgewood Golf Club, and destination courses around the world. He was a big fan of the Philadelphia Phillies and Eagles. He loved trips to Atlantic City, Disney World, Ireland, and more, with his family. Reds especially enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren, who called him "Pop Pop," and the family's many cats and dogs.
Robert is survived by his wife of 63 years, Bettyane (Csaszar) Eckenrode; his children, Kelley Eckenrode, Bobby Eckenrode, and Colleen Spitko; and his grandchildren, Beth, Troy, Jake, Emory, and Skyla.
Reds will be remembered and missed by many more-nephews, nieces, cousins, extended family, and friends. His stories from his life as the proverbial middle child made everyone laugh. He was a proud supporter of "Bethlum" staples, Potts' Hot Dogs, Machs Gute, and Wind Creek Casino. If you're reading this, he would tell you to get a scratch-off or lottery ticket today, because you just might hit the big one.
In lieu of flowers, the family would love a note about your favorite memories or photos with Reds. A celebration of life will be held in the coming months for friends and family. In the meantime, think of Reds when you're out on the greens or even stuck in a sand trap. He lived a great story.
