Robert August Engel Jr.

Robert August Engel, Jr., age 88, passed away on Monday December 22, 2025, in Shawano. Robert was born on September 11, 1937, in Shawano to the late Robert A. and Gertrude (Gralow) Engel, Sr. He attended Forest School through 8th grade and graduated from Shawano High School Class of 1955. On May 29, 1965, Robert was united in marriage to Bonnie Huntington in Gresham. He was a lifetime member of Peace United Church of Christ and served on the church council. Robert farmed with his father until 1980 when he purchased the farm in the Town of Richmond. He was a member of the Fox Valley Guernsey Association, Wisconsin Guernsey Breeders Association and the American Guernsey Cattle Club. Robert was a lifetime member of the Shawano County Ag Society. He proudly exhibited his Guernsey cows for 80 years with his family at the Shawano County Fair. Robert also exhibited at the WI State Fair and World Dairy Expo. He loved the Packers and the Brewers on the radio while milking. Most of all he loved his grandchildren and especially watch them show cattle! Dad's famous words "Sun Drop will cure anything!"

Robert is survived by his wife of 60 years, Bonnie; children, Susan (Keith) Hietpas, Julie (James) Wendler, James (Jessica) Engel and Michael (Stephine) Engel; and grandchildren, Eric Abresch, Andrew Abresch, Jennifer Wendler, Robert Wendler, Jack Wendler, Grayson Engel, Eloise Engel, Remington Engel and Harlynn Habeck-Krueger.

Robert is preceded in death by his sister, Edith Knepfel; and parents, Robert, Sr., and Gertrude Engel.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday December 27, 2025, at Peace United Church of Christ in Shawano with Pastor Gail Irwin. Visitation will be held at church on Saturday from 9:30 am until time of service. Inurnment will be held at Woodlawn Cemetery in Shawano at a later date.
