I've been trying to think about what to write since I heard the news. What's hard is there are too many fond memories and lessons to possibly ever write.
In the 6 years I was in Troop 24, Mr. English was a fixture in my life. Every Thursday night and so many weekends, I was learning the things that I would take forward into the rest of my life. At the time, I thought I was learning knots, lashings, how to glaze windows, leatherwork, and outdoor skills. What I was really learning was how to be a kind and generous person and how to live with the utmost integrity. How to always do the right thing, be resourceful, and help people.
It's not an exaggeration to say that I use something I learned from Mr. English every single day. It's also not an exaggeration to say that I think about him every single day when I'm doing one of those things.
One specific thing I'll always remember is how much he made from scratch. Every camping trip he came packing something he made or something from his garden. My favorite was always the fig preserves. A couple of years ago we planted a fig tree so that I could start making my own. I'm sure Mr. English could have shown me how to get it growing better than it is but even without having produced any fruit it makes me happy every time I see it in my yard.
He forgot more things than I'll probably ever know but I'm forever grateful for all the things that I know because of Mr. English and for Ms. English who graciously shared her husband with all of us boys throughout all those years.

My prayers to the English family. Sixty-three years ago my brother and I were on his bike going down the path to Mrs.English's store. My left foot went into the spokes of the rear wheel. As a child of seven I was screaming, Mr. Bob came to the rescue. He scooped me up and my brother followed him(w/bike). He borrowed Mr. Davis car,my brother gave him directions to our house and he was my Hero.
He was my brother's and Sons Scout leader. I Know God has a special place for people like him. Well done and Thank You!
