Robert Gregory Etheridge, 67, of Alabaster passed away September 15, 2023. Visitation will be held Monday, September 25th from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Charter Funeral Home in Calera. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, September 26th at 11:30 AM at Gospel Light Baptist Church in Helena with interment following at 1:15 PM at the Alabama National Cemetery.
Greg was born February 16, 1956 in Dallas, Texas, then moved with his family to Springfield, Missouri in 1960, then Birmingham in 1963. He graduated from Huffman High School, Class of 1974, and then moved again with his family to Alabaster in 1975. He enlisted in the Army in 1979 and worked as an Electronic Warfare and Signals Analyst for 3 years at Fort Meade, Maryland.
Greg worked in sales for the steel industry of Birmingham for over 40 years. Additionally, he was a charter and active member of his church, Gospel Light Baptist Church. Since 2002, Greg served his faith community as a Sunday school teacher, bus driver, choir member and Fisherman's Club member.
An avid sports fan, Greg loved college football and rooted for the Alabama Crimson Tide every Saturday in the fall. He also enjoyed watching his favorite NASCAR driver Dale Earnhardt race, and he was even able to visit the Daytona International Speedway with his daughter.
Greg leaves behind to cherish his memory his daughter Bekah Gray (husband Joe) and his siblings: Laurie Mattox, Elaine McLemore (husband Wayland), and Paul Etheridge (wife Lisa). Greg was predeceased by his parents, Robert L. "Bob" and Lily Etheridge.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to Gospel Light Baptist Church & Academy or the Army Emergency Relief. Arrangements are under the careful direction of Charter Funeral Home of Calera. Condolences may be shared with the family at www.charterfuneral.com.
