Manville, NJ- Robert Edwin "Bob" Etzold, 92, passed peacefully in his sleep on Monday, January 20, 2025 at home. Born in Mountainside, NJ, son of the late Edwin Frederick and Emelie (nee Zuegner) Etzold, he was raised in Springfield, NJ, and then raised his family in Bridgewater, NJ, before moving to
Manville, NJ in 1996.
Bob honorably served his country with the United States Navy from 1952-1953 and was a combat veteran of the Korean War. He was a proud Tin Can Sailor who served aboard the destroyer U.S.S. Pritchett as a gunner's mate and was a member of the American Legion Post 327 in Bridgewater. Bob was an avid motorcyclist and a lifetime member of the Dawn Patrol Motorcycle Club of Bradley Gardens, NJ. Bob was a hard-working cabinet maker, employed by Royal Cabinets in Hillsborough, NJ, before he retired in 1997. Even though he was retired he continued to build things for his friends and family – all you had to do was ask and in short time he would show up with what you had described to him. Most that knew Bob probably have something that he lovingly built for them in their home.
In his younger years, Bob enjoyed rebuilding cars and refinishing baby grand pianos. Bob loved camping, frequenting many campgrounds throughout New Jersey and Pennsylvania with his family and friends in his camper that he built from the ground up.
Bob's greatest joy in life was given to him by his grandchildren and great grandchildren, whom for he would drop whatever he was doing immediately to help if they needed it.
Besides his parents, Bob was predeceased by his brother, Herbert Etzold, and his two sisters Agnes Feltman and Alice Etzold. It was Bob's beloved sister, Alice, who assumed the responsibility of raising him after the early passing of both of his parents. He is also predeceased by nephews Herbert and Daniel Etzold, Randy Feltman and niece Linda Tessier.
Bob will be deeply missed by all and is survived by his loving children, Stephen Etzold of Hillsborough and Jennifer Miller of Raritan, NJ and his former wife, Madeline Etzold of Bridgewater, with whom he remained close; three cherished grandchildren, Steven Miller and his wife, Jenna of Raritan; Michael Miller, of Raritan; and Ashley Gottlieb and her husband, Dylan of Colorado; three adored great grandchild, Madison, Miles, and Steven; a dear niece June Temple and nephew, Robert Feltman.
