Robert Steven Etzold, 71, of Sacramento, passed away on 07/06/2022.
Robert was born on February 22, 1951 to Barbara V & William H Etzold in Sacramento, California. He was the middle child & only son, born after older sister Diane Etzold (Chulick) & before younger sister Lynn Etzold. Robert graduated from Hiram Johnson High school in 1968, studied at Cosumnes River college & worked as a short order cook at a local coffee shop where he met his first wife Susan Elizabeth Lowman as a waitress. Susan & Robert enjoyed camping, socializing with many friends & co-workers & attending concerts. They were together for 10 years & had one daughter, Gretchen Lorraine Etzold born in 1979. Robert & Susan divorced but remained in friendly contact throughout their lives.
In 1986, Robert married Rinda Jane Holt, & became stepfather to her 4 children David LeCompte, Jeremy Jay LeCompte (Chaney), Jennifer Darla Smith (Rodriguez), and Mark Carey Smith. Rinda & Bob owned a home in Rio Linda, enjoyed boating and long drives on the weekend, and Bob began his long career with the State of California in the Geology and Bureau of Automotive Repairs departments. Robert continued to work for the State of California until he was 69 years old, and lived his final years as a companion to his mother Barbara Etzold.
Robert is preceded in death by his former wife Susan Elizabeth Lowman, father William H Etzold,& younger sister Lynn Etzold. Survived by his daughter Gretchen Etzold (& husband Keith Erickson)& former stepchildren & their families, older sister Diane Chulick (husband Al & daughter Cass),nephew Jason (partner Laura Smith),former wife Rinda Jane White, as well as aunts, uncles & many cousins.
Robert was also survived by his two grandchildren, Arabella Etzold-Erickson & Evander Etzold-Erickson who knew him by his self-assigned nickname of "Grumpa Bob". Grumpa Bob was a frequent audience member at Arabella's many plays & school performances throughout the years, & Bob always took great care in selecting presents that reflected his grandkids current interests. Visits with Bob usually involved card/board games, and Arabella especially enjoyed playing games such as Uno & Whoonu with him.
